Maybach limo gets a boost

57S delivers 612bhp and 737lb-ft of torque

Maybach 57S
Maybach 57S
DaimlerChrysler has launched a new, even more powerful version of its bonkers Maybach 57 limo.

For £40,000 or so over the price of the 57, the 57S offers an even bigger engine, up from 5.5 to six litres, boosting power from an already healthy 550bhp to a monstrous 612bhp. Torque rises too, from 664lb-ft  to 737lb-ft from 2,000rpm. The mill is the Mercedes-Benz S65's AMG 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12.

Weight is unchanged at 2,735Kg, so performance is up: the new limo hits 62mph in just five seconds and maxes out at 171mph. The car's lower too, to help provide it with the ability to manage the power, and gets thicker anti-roll bars, stiffer suspension settings, and 20-inch wheels.

Total price is now £289,090.

Mad or what?

what is the point? its not like the damn thing can go round corners is it??

a healthy wad of torque to get going is all you need for a waft-mobile like this, otherwise the luxurious ride just becomes a neck snapping surge to the horizon. where's the relaxation in that?

they're overdoing it IMO

The picture has it going past the 'High Speed Club'.

Now that is just cheesy!

Hah hah....a truly outrageous and comical vehicle (more so at least)

Those 20" rims look a bit small to me. Would look much cooler rollin' on some Dubs or even a set of MJ's.....seen as that's the sort of folk this pimp mobile is aimed at.

Is there a Brabus version aimed at the Russian Mafia market yet?

Oh, enough with the "S" already!

Tuscan S, Cayman S, Europa S, Maybach 57S...

I know it's got history with Porsche but seriously, how about some originality from everyone else! Lets think of something that denotes more power other than simply banging an "S" after the name!

Doesn't Simon Cowell (of X Factor fame) have one of these? Black windows sounds like his style to me.

Hey guys,

I quite like idea of a hefty motor matching sports cars in the traffic light GP! However the price tag is some punch line for the joke! May as well go for the "cheapy" S65 AMG!

As for ppl buying them....There is actually a RHD one for sale at present with a Ferrari Specialist, in London, priced at about £225k!! (its the 62 version)

I saw one one the weekend coming into London on the A3, on UK plates with a chauffuer. It really looks too much like a pimped up S class for the money. Actually, the AMG s-class is a far more tasteful looking car than the Maybach....Why do people buy the Maybach again??

Rarer than hens teeth and usually driven by corrupt african dictators. Who cares how fast it is when a rebel with a M60 in a toyota Hilux is the only one that might ever see it. Question is it faster than a bullit and can it dodge one ?

How about "Q" for quicker or "MT" for Moronic Twat for buying something like this.
Who needs speed in a limo you need luxury!!!!!!

Interesting comments.... For the record, Simon Cowell DOES have one and it's been seen at the a certain London Heliport on a few occasions.

A friend of mine has one and, as limos go, it's a very nice place to be when being driven round London. I recently got a run home from London to Wiltshire in it and the level of comfort, the almost total silence at 70mph on the M4 and the reclining 'armchair' seats make it an extremely relaxing ride.

Yes, it doesn't handle like my Noble, but it's not designed to. I do agree that the new version seems pointless given what the car's designed for.

Ho hum... life goes on

Dom.
