Surely the mags can think of something new?

Every sodding mag since God knows when has had this infernal group test, all with wildly varying results.

Suppose that's fair enough but for the love of Alberto tatlock - NO MORE...

AAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, a quite inconsequential rant but I feel like something the reaper's about to reap.

Could be worse - the bike mags have a three month rotation of the same "all the 600s", "all the 750s" and "all the 1000s" tests.

Thats the same test by the same magazine four times a year with the same results. Boring.

Urgh - sympathy duly conveyed to our 2 wheeled compadres.

Must say, having re-read whichever mag last night (16 paracetamols and 8 drams of something from the wilds of Scotland later), I must re-emphasize my awe for these saloons.

But they are SO confusing! The first M5 v S-Type R test had the cat scratching first blood but since then has achieved relatively low ratings in the group tests.

So how the hell you're supposed to pick a winner from the trio from Germany seems like a lottery...I guess this might partly explain what's bugging me about all these reviews - too many opinions!

Tell you what though: saw only my second Merc SL this morning; brilliant silver, an SL500 - quite sensational and it gave Larry Lexus a devil of a fright! Imagine the AMG one!

The SL55 is quite stunning in the flesh i`ve seen a couple running around locally , they are much smaller than i expected them to be .

As for picking a winner out the German trio i guess its horses for course`s , for me it would be the RS or Maybe the E55 ,,, doh,, you see i dont think there can be a winner they are all so good .

It will be interesting to see what BMW do with the new M5 to out Blitz Mercedes, it seems like a massive power war is on its way

My Porker shares a garage with a silver one which has got the 18 inch AMG 5 spokes. Great motor but surprisingly less space in the cabin than in a 996.

Seems like you're the man to ask: which of the Germans would YOU buy, DAZ?

Definitely the Porker, but it's nice to be able to borrow (with a crow bar and a promise not to thrash it) the SL when the sun comes out!

DAZ
(PS this new SL cost exactly the same as the specced up SL previously bought in 1990, when you consider tha new one has all the Gizmos that were previously options, comparative VFM or what?)

The SL is too camp. Get the CL 55AMG. Now that's a fine GT.

The 996TT isn't pretty though. It's mean and moody, with all those gaping intakes. Anyway, everyone knows a 911 is a mans car. Well, the hardtop ones anyway.

Yes Sir you are right the 993 is prettier than the 996 IMO and is the best looking 911 to date

OK RR all time it is , im changing motors soon im trying to be sensible for the sake of the company but my eye keeps being drawn to a 993tt +30 with some gemballa stuff added , i have alway wanted a 993tt and im feeling if i dont do it soon they will become to old , what do you think of Arena Red as a colour for them ,,thats one of the problems i have with this particular car

Although I have no problem with it, many within pork circles reckon red is the no-no colour for the TT.

Frankly, it really doesn't matter, just make sure you get the pesky rev limiter sorted - you'll be forever headbutting the darned thing!
