crossed the bridge on the wrong side of the road and died in a head on collision with a Corvette. He was taken to hospital by helicopter where he's now in a a critical condition.

At the risk of upsetting people how did the guy die in a head on collision but was then helicoptered to hospital to be in a critical condition - either he's dead or he's not which is it??

Seems clear enough to me. The brit in the Sebring died in the collision with the Corvette, the driver of the Corvette is in critical condition. Or am I missing something?

It's crystal clear now that Ted's amended the original story ...

When I die, I don't want to go to heaven, I want to go to the Intensive Care unit for a second opinion.

Surely it's because if you're the first to comment, you get a "Post New Topic" button, but if someone has already replied you get a "Post Reply" button.

All it takes is for two people to go to the New Topic screen before the other person saves their comments.

Yes but remember had he had been going under the speed limit, the accident would never have happened no matter what side of the road he had of been on.

I experienced that, when I changed the topicname; when I was the first person posting from the news page. The second person posting from the news page had the default title and therefore opened a new thread. Well, it's what I think how this occurs.

Saw this on the news this morning.

Funny, they didn't mention it was a brit at the wheel of the car that caused the crash!

Oh well, looking on the bright side that two less minging cars in the world.

Sorry to hear people were hurt though.

Just checked it out with the mirror helmet news. It wasn't possible to change the topic's title - but then, I'm at work, browsing with IE and not with my beloved Mozilla.

When driving in other countries you have to be BLOODY careful, My wife and I drove in Germany and the USA in 2001. Concentrate and take your time. I feel sorry for the people killed and injured. We also drove in Britian.

It has to be said, after driving for reasonably long periods of time in countries where they drive on the wrong side of the road, I tend to get more confused when coming home.

I think this is because you concentrate more when you know things are different. Also its much easier when there is alot of traffic to remind you which way to go

I agree it's easy to mess up as you return to uk when driving your own car.

But this guy was driving a rental, that means the steering wheel was on the correct side for the US .Which makes it very simple.

Roudabouts can be a problem sometimes though.

Do they have roundabouts in that part of the States? Only a few states in America have them I think, and they're called 'rotaries'.

Happens over here as well with drivers used to this country. Driven on the continent as well and had a few lapses of concentration. Notably in Liepzeg (sp?) after consulting map to pull out on the wrong side then be confronted by a tram, opps etc, try to get on the right side and tram comming the other way, both start to give me grief. I responded with shrug and smiled and they let me out, but tut tut head shakes from the drivers.

Not sure about roundabouts in Florida, I've driven a bit there.
Here in New Jersey they call them circles and the natives don't like them!
They seem to be disapearing, or all becoming light controlled.
I took a texan round a busy one in New Jersey, he asked if we could return by a different route!
He had new seen one before.

It happens over here too - I was hit by a German travelling on the wrong side of the road. Head on, both doing 40 on a country lane. Ouch. Killed my car, broke my back and smashed my hand. Still using a comedy mouse because I can't use a normal one, seven years later...
