On Top Gear last night it was said that journey times have increased by 16%. Traffic volume, however, was identical.

Before any 'road safety officer' jumps in to claim that our roads are safer as a result, they would do well to note that road deaths are pretty constant. In short, the longer journey times are caused by roadworks, tampered traffic lights, bus lanes, asorted Council-designed 'crazy golf' hazards and unreasonably low 'fashion' speed limits. And all for nothing whatsoever other than a pointless political goal promoted with our tax money. Hurrah.

I agree.

I find it amazing that people think it is safer to force a car on to the wrong side of the road, with a chicane or even to reverse the right of way.

Speed humps as well are a bad idea as they could contribute to someone losing control.

Putting Bustops sticking out instead of in bays will just cause people to pull out to overtake increasing risk.

Transport safety is going backwards.

Surely a more efficient and faster road system would be better for the enviroment and the economy.

I think i'm right in thinking that if cars are going slowly/caught in traffic/waiting at lights, then they are being considerably less efficient, and chucking out noxious fumes in a more localised and condesed area, this is very bad surely (unless everyone drives a new Saab), so wouldn't it be a better idea for the likes of Red Ken to ensure traffic flows smoothly, and not like the heart of 60 a day 90 year old smoker?
