To the PH hierarchy,

Why are you posting news of a new SUV on this website? So they make decent tow vehicles for race cars - so what? I thought this site was devoted to people who prefer news about CARS that are sporting in nature, or at least present some sort of new technology? I have a suggestion, leave information about new SUVs to the websites that are devoted to these moronic abominations, and if you feel you are deprived of new, print-worthy news, why don't you post news about motorbikes? Bikes are more closely related to performance and technology than SUVs.

Relax ! it's news. It'll get slated by all & sundry. NO worries. Agree about the bike idea.... Guess why?!

Stick around, read a bit more, and get the full score.

Double Clutch,

This forum is 'Motoring News' and as such is not restricted to just performance cars. Although PistonHeads is very much a sportscar / performance car community many members have an intrest in 4x4s as well and indeed own them as family transporters.

Ted is just catering for all aspects of the membership.

I beg you people, DO NOT ASSIMILATE!!! Shun the SUV and see the light! ;-)

Yeah, I hate them all and I have to admit that I feel like a bit of a salmon these days, but I'll never die! If you want a family hauler, get a van, at least they have more room, and more importantly, they can haul a bike or a kart with all the supplies. :-)

Don't knock the 4x4's!

1) Gets the Mrs, 4 kids & luggage to LeMans (while I take the fast road).
2) Ever been 'proper' off-roading? The best fun availabile under 10 mph
3) Tows the car/bike to track days.

AND - how could any self-respecting school-run Mum be without one

Hmmmm... perhaps I should have qualified that statement

"Best fun available under 10 mph, while keeping clothes on with no-one allowed to touch anyone else in the car"

Chill out

Not much sports car news about at the moment and whilst we do specialise in fast cars, there's room for some general interest stuff. The Land Cruiser is a bit of a legend so a quick snippet that a new one is around the corner ain't exactly heresy.

Next week: Citroen Berlingo road test

RELAX, Jim! As the funky afro haired taxi driving dude said to Bond in the seminal flick, Live & Let Die (proper Bond btw, none of this MTV generation dross).

I have to agree with JSG; if ALL we ever discussed were the usual suspects (and Lord knows, I love 'em as much as anyone!), it might get a tad tedious.

After all, did not Mitsubishi develop the utterly bonkers EVO Shogun? Do TTI not offer performance upgrades to Landcruisers? And who could argue with the performance credentials of a Hartge badged X5 or a Cayenne Turbo?

Sure, not Caterham intense but absolutely as relevant to some PH chaps as an uber German or a blown Bentley!

Must admit to some bias but as I've said several times now, there IS more to driving than 'the handling envelope.' Try serious off roading in a Landcruiser deisel and it's hidden depths become apparent.

Tracks and rutted farmland wastes; both are 'extreme' driving conditions and neither are properly explored by conventional road going vehicles.

Wouldn't stop me driving an Ultima GTR on the open road though.

Anyway, as Ted says, the LC is something of a standard bearer; it's the eastern equivalent of the Rangey or Land Rover.

Oh yeah, the guy who tweaks my Porsche, who also races rather effectively too, drags his Cup racers with...a Landcruiser!
