The article in the Sunday Times included a quote from Edmund King of the RAC saying that motorways were the most dangerous of roads bla bla. Surely he more than anyone should know that they are the safest roads in the UK!?

3 million quid wasted on more shite!
Just what is the point of this tripe?
If im feeling sleepy, then i wont bloody drive, i dont need some arty farty "sculpture"(i use the word in its broadest possible sense) to keep me awake.
Its more likely to send me off, or distract me.
To the powers that be; STOP WASTING MONEY ON TRASH!!!
GET YOUR PRIORITIES SORTED, OR DO US A FAVOUR AND RESIGN.....ALL OF YOU!

Mrs Hughes said: "It would be an amazing thing to have and there is a great deal of support for it."

Well, living near a proposed site for it, I don't want the F****g thing.

Hmm, a net over the M1 at Kegworth, on the flight path to EMA. Now there's a good idea.

Why don't they spend the money putting a dual carriageway into Donnington. Much more useful, and will probably save more lives.

Actually, it MIGHT be a good idea .... something to catch the planes when they fall out of the air !

I live near Kegworth too. What's the betting they'll do this sculpture over the existing 6 lanes of m-way, then have to knock it down again in a couple of years time when they extend the M1 to 8 lanes !

What a great idea.

Distract motorists from concentrating on driving, yup.

Provide a hypnotic tunnel-vision experience which ironically would probably send em all to sleep, lots of accidents, great thinking.

Lots of call outs for the AA/RAC following accidents. hmmmmmm. Conspiracy hmmmmmmmm.

Splendid library photo of "generic motorway" from the BBC too. Look at the state of the vehicles. That has to be at least 20 years old.

Is that a Renault 16 coming towards the camera in the outside lane?

Sure looks like it, that must make it nearer 30 years old.

They state the thing will be paid for by local business, OH THATS OK THEN!!

Obviously the planners never thought who gets the cost of maintaining it when the businesses come to their senses and withdraw funding.

My first reaction to the headline was, wow - that'd be amazing to drive under, and a mental image of what it'd be like.

In my little daydream, I suddenly realised that looking up at this um, 'thing' wasn't helping my concentration on the road.

Dim. VERY Dim.

What you all want is a proper sculpture like the "Angel of the North"

What, in your opinion, makes the Angel of the North more valid a sculpture than this jobbie then?

Could it not be said that the AotN draws your eyes completely away from the road unlike this structure.

Personally I think you're being miserable petulant gits and should be happy that an effort is being made to see that there is more to this country than grey concrete and litter.

Simple.
Its known as getting priorities straight.
For instance, the section of motorway that this eyesore is going up over; when was the last time it was properly resurfaced?
Use the money more effectively, for once.
Silly "sculptures" dropped everywhere willy nilly aint doing anyone any good.
Its not an improvement, its a folly,ie;it has no function.
Id rather the 3,000,000 pounds(lot of zeros huh?) was spent on rectification and improvements....lotsa potholes filled with that amount.
Theres really no point to putting up a useless structure like this so spend the money wisely, or just donate it to me..ill bloody spend it for ya!

Allright, I'm not an art connosiour(sp), but can you justify the spending of hundreds of thousands on "art", such as the rubbish that has appeared at the Tate; dirty bed, pile of bricks, half a cow etc.

This net is similar, as is TAotN. It is utterly pointless.

I admire design in structure, but that structure has to have a reason for me. Incorporate the net into a bridge if needed, but make it something useful.

£3m eh? If I'm doing 130mph, exactly how long is it going to be in view? That's gotta be about £800k a second! It's not my idea of value for money . . .

You're missing the point folks.

Just think how many cameras they'll be able to mount on that!
Pay for itself in 2 weeks and earn them a fortune it will
