Having put 4 lots of engine sealant in my 98 Range Rover over the last 3 months, and it still using water and using oil and smelling of oil I'm guessing that the engine is going to need some fairly serious repairs/replacement.
I'm interested to hear recommendations, warnings etc before I go and spend big money on it. I would like to keep it and I'm toying with the idea of a performance upgrade (it's already got a full stainless exhaust includes sports Cats etc) so I'll wait to hear any experiences.
Thanks.

If the engine does need to be stripped down Id reccomend trying
TVR Power to see if they would rebuild it with one of their new super-charger kits
bolted on!
Just an idea

Good choice in TVR by the way

I'd only go to one of two places either Progress ENgineering in Maidstone although now moved, they used to be Rovercraft huge knowledge or RPI in Norwich.

Had a TR7 v8 for rallying some years ago super fast and reliable somewhere in the region of 330-350 BHP at the wheels. If I remember it was 4.5 Ltr with solid lifers and 4 x 48 DCOE Weber’s used to spin the back wheels in fifth... even with slicks on. It was an ex BL special tuning engine from Abingdon wouldn’t know who does those sort of rebuilds nowadays…

Thanks TR7V8. I've gone for a new short engine from RPI.

And JE Engineering in Coventry, which know these things inside out. They developed the 4.2 V8 for Land Rover to use in the Mk1 RR.
