Ok, I'm not kidding: this has actually happened.

In Maidstone, we have a bit of a problem with boy racers. No worse then anywhere else, but Maidstone Borough Council wanted to ban Boy Racers from driving down a certain road (in the Oh-so-obvious notion that by banning where they meet, they will all go away and buy sensible cars).

So, they have now installed No entry signs at either end, and ONLY cars with permits can enter between 7pm and 8am.

Let me write that again. At certain times of the day, ONLY certain cars (ie the residents) are allowed to drive down a road which I have paid for.

can they do this???????????

Surely its against my civil liberties. Its not a "private road", but a road that I, as a tax payer has paid for. And now I am not allowed to drive down it.

And no, it hasent been pedestranised (SP?). Its still a normal road...

I'm so angry I am going to drive down it as often as possible.

Either that or I want no entry signs (with permits, naturally) for the road where I live to stop people who driving down. Afterall, I live here....

They did that near us as the road had a bottle neck at one end near a school. Chance of an accident as it was also at the bottom of a long hill.. Sooo buses only allowed down it and its maintaned and lit from our council poll tax thingy.

Give them a Country Park with a few big car parks and short ish stretch of road and they'll be happy!

On a sunday night hundreds of Max Muppets and boy racers decend on Strathclyde Country Park to sit about, get drunk, take pictures and kick some tyres. They don't bother any body else and nobody bothers them. Being Scotlan, there is the occasional stabbing. But that can only be a good thing? The Police are always there in Force (excuse the pun) but they rarely do anything other than the odd tax check, end of month time, that sort of thing. In fact, I have been a couple of times with a mate (not in my car you understand) and on one occasion witnessed the Police do a burnout in a 850T5 . {Whispering} But I shouldn't say that too loudly or they might get told off. {/whispering}

As for local authorities, my local council (I think) are tyring to implement a one way system to prevent congestion in the centre of town. Congestion caused by muppets parking on Double Yellows and nobody doing anything about it
REMOVE THE PROBLEM YOU MUPPETS. NOT THE SYMPTOM!

Here's a temporary solution. Go to B&Q or somewhere and get a few 3ftx2ft Paving Slabs. Then, at somepoint during the day lay the slabs across the road over the bollards (obviously they must be in the down position) and then they won't be able to rise and stop people driving along the street
(Disclaimer. This is assuming that the system uses rise and fall bollards in the road. Any unjury sustained whilst attempting this because a bollard has risen a hit you in the face has nothing to do with me )

yep, something i've said before. banning them from one area just moves the problem.

as for banning drivers from certain areas, you should get a petition going to overturn their decision. dunno if that would work. i always wonder about the point of banning parking on the outskirts of kingston... just means that the roads are largely empty of parked cars (cos residents have driven to work) and cars park further away. so its just more inconvenient for everyone

First stupid idea of the year goes to Maidstone Borough Council.

We should start a list and award the Council with the most stupid ideas an award along the lines of a plastic turn on a plinth.

Hmmm actually this has serious potential.

Especially if it involved inviting a councillor to attend next years BT&P to collect a "motoring award".

Admittedly, its cruel, but somewhat appealing
