Appeal process to be repeated after "errors" were made
Almost nine years after Ayrton Senna's death in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, the Italian Supreme Court has cancelled the original verdict of the Appeals Court and reopened the inquiry into the cause of his fatal accident at Imola.
In 1997, Italian state prosecutors accused Williams technical director Patrick Head and designer Adrian Newey with 'culpable homicide', claiming that steering column failure was to blame for Senna's accident. Charges against Frank Williams were dropped before the end of the year.
The Supreme Court accepted a petition from prosecutor Rinaldo Rosini yesterday (Monday), who claims errors were made in the original process, and the case will be reopened once again. No dates have been set, but it is likely to be heard at the end of this year.
The ruling also reopens the debate into whether Formula 1 should race in Italy under the possibility of such legal threats should a fatal accident occur in future.

This is standard Italian procedure for fatal accidents in motorsport.
Enzo nearly quit racing many times over the years due to the harassment he received from the system and the newspapers so it wouldn't matter if he was in a Ferrari (probably would have been worse)
They tried Ferrari many years ago for using unsuitable tyres on their cars when some driver was killed (can't remember who, will try to dig the books out if anyone is interested). It turned out to be the cats eyes they use on the road that caused the tyre to explode so I tread gingerly everytime I see these things even though this has been fixed many years ago.
There were other occasions so it surprises me not that Williams are still being persued by the Italian legal system. It would look bad if Williams had made an error in the steering engineering but would be highly unlikely, this is one of the reasons Ferrari have to build the strongest chassis, engine, etc, the justic3e system in Italy would crucify them.

yes it was VERY sad that Senna was killed, i believe i witnessed the accident but can't really remember as i was 10 at the time, but is there any point to dragging this all up again?
does his family want to for example? or is it just some jumped-up italian lawyer who wants to make money out of the situation!?!
nothing is going to be acheived from this, even if they decide every williams engineer that worked for the team in '94 was responsable are they going to send them all to jail (gaol) 9 years later!?!

It might stop the Williams team from competing in Italy as they will be subject to Italian law when in the country and if there is a warrant for them issued they could be before the courts for a "please expalin" at the least.

ok, i understand it now, if williams can't compete in the two italian races thats a potential 32points lost...
ie some italian lawyer is doing this to hand ferrari the championship on a plate (as if any help was needed)
wont be the first time the italians have used the courts to try to win a champinship.
my mind goes back to when peugeot were excluded from an italian rally so lancia could score full points.
that said i doubt this years f1 title is in much danger of being snatched by a non italian team.
