Once again I feel I have to bring up the cost of the new vRS having just learnt the price of the new SEAT Leon FR.
This starts at £16995 and the vRS at £17495 (or something).
The FR has much more spec than the vRS too so what gives? Skoda the value arm or VAG????? Doesn't seem to be anymore.

Cut down a VW to the bones - you've got a SEAT.

That's pretty much the way it is. A friend of mine was talking to a motor industry analyst who reckons that the game plan within the VAG Group is to have a pecking order of Audi - Skoda - VW - SEAT or possibly SEAT - VW. Don't forget that Skoda used to be a luxury car maker. Someone once said "Skoda's are screwed together and SEAT's are glued together". Bit harsh perhaps. Looking at the new Octavia vRS prices I do think they are moving the marque upmarket. Glad I bought my Fabia vRS when I did. At the end of the day, yer pays yer money and makes yer choice.

If you look reliability, then it´s Seat.
That's so wide of the mark it's almost funny.
Check out the TopGear / JD Power surveys for the last few years and see what the respective positions of Skoda & Seat are.
Whats yours like on fuel geoff
Depends how i drive it
Single figures around Croft or other tracks...
Mid to high 30's on an extended motorway run at 80-85 mph, i've seen 420miles out of a tank of Optimax/VPower on a Euro run. Overall average is a shade under 30 mpg.

Question is have you driven Skodas? I have, almost every day at work, from Fabias to Octavia. And I have to say they are utter rubbish. You must admit that it´s cheaply made and it shows. But yes the quality has gone up from previous production.

I've owned an Octavia RS since march 03 with no problems at all.
I also know plenty of other people who have owned them without any problems. As for cheaply made, i admit nothing of the sort. They're screwed together better than a lot of their competitors cars are.

According to VAG's own internal quality and warranty returns audits, Skoda is the best marque in the group. This is also backed by the JD Powers surveys too. I hadnt really considered the quality aspect too much when I got my Fabia vRS two years ago, but I am very impressed, the fit & finish is very good, solidity is better than the equivalent Polo upon which it is based.
It has performed faultlessly and I would definately have another Skoda, but I would also check out the Seat equivalents too, I wouldnt bother with VW or Audi at all as they dont do a Skoda/Seat equivalent of the really good stuff as it would upset the marketing of other VAG group products. R32 Fabia for £18k? or an RS4 4.2 Quattro Superb for £26K?, nope, I dont think they would dare

If it's anything like the Octy RS Mk1's Motorpoint were flogging it'll be non-UK spec.
