SRT-10
500bhp, 8.3 litre truck to churn up the USA

Take a large truck and put a large engine in it. It's a simple equation that has been working well for manufacturers in the US.
Now Dodge have gone a step further. They've taken a large truck and put a huuuge engine in it. Not your regular V8, or even a hot V8, but the same engine that's used in the Dodge Viper - a 8.3 litre, 500 horsepower V10. With 525 lb-ft of torque the Dodge Ram SRT-10 will churn tarmac thoughout the US.
Despite possessing the aerodynamics of a windbreak, the SRT-10 can top 150mph.
Wolfgang Bernhard, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Group commented "There is no replacement for displacement".

I'd love to have a vehicle like this if only to piss off lentilists.
They are just so "inyourface I don't care about anything" type vehicles.
Plus no one would ever bully you on the road again....
Also consider this. Most HGV (articulated type) trucks in this country have about 350bhp in their big diseasals.
This truck has 500
SO by my reckoning the truckers should get these instead of their crappy diseasal rigs.
Of course then the truckers would have to invade Iraq just to get enough petrol to drive them

Detroit is filled with morons, and they get less intelligent every day.
"Hey guys, I've got a box on my desk - lets put 15,000lbs of steel on it, add wheels, then stick a 1000HP W16 engine in it and market it as the best way for a family to get around!"
I've never owned a piece of Detroit's garbage and never will.

That's too bad. We have had to live with it for quite some time now. Bring TVRs over here!
Seriously there is nothing wrong with a nice 60s era Chevelle with modern suspension, tires, steering, brakes, and engine (450 HP). Even gets 20-25 MPG if you keep your foot out of the carb (fuel injection actually).

It is indeed ridiculous, not because of the 500HP, but because it's just a stupid truck! The back end is so light that in order to transmit 500HP effectively to the ground, you'd have to load the bed with sacks of concrete! I agree with MikeAR303, Detroit IS moronic and they're getting worse by the day. Frankly, I'm embarrassed.
They still don't get it, they continue to build cars and trucks to please the midwest and the south and the rest of us have to suffer. If the stuff they make isn't junk, it's completely useless and/or inane. The only decent things to come from there are the Corvette and the Mustang. Even so, the Mustang is so cheap (not implying inexpensive by any means) and even the Vette, although vastly improved, is still a little rough around the edges.
The fact that the SRT-10 is from Chrysler is even more alarming. Aside from the Viper, they don't have any cars to crow about. They would be wise to concentrate their efforts on improving the unreliable , benign junk they pawn-off onto the public instead of trying to build such pointless and idiotic things as 500HP trucks.
I say this again, because it bears repeating: Brits and Euros, count your blessings, at least you guys don't have to actually put up with this kind of crap on your roads, nor the macho s@*#heads that drive them.

Ahh, it would be nice to see TVRs brought to the US, but the car I want is already on the way - the Lotus Elise
Ever tried taking that 60's chevelle around a corner at speeds more than 10mph? I imagine it wouldn't work too well...
(I'm in the US BTW, it seems you didn't get that from my post... I just refuse to drive american cars is all)

Hmmm, I wonder how much it will cost.
But also, how does it sound? Everytime I hear a Viper drive past over here, all you can hear is the noise from the tyres. Some of the best sounding vehicles are pickup trucks. Sometimes I can be walking down the road and I hear a lovely V8 rumble, and I think "TVR" and when I turn around, it's a dirty great big GM pickup.
Oh, the rear spoiler looks very useful.

That is why I said *modern* components (tires, suspension, brakes...). With a good setup, it will corner around 1G. 13.8" disc brakes make it stop nice too (they are heavy, though about the same as most modern cars...). Pure G-machine.
I will concede that Brits do well with the tiny little things that they have to work with. Some even look nice too. But the same type of car does not seem to get put out here.

hahem... to all you US bashing bastards... This car is not for you. How many SVT lightnings do you see on your side of the pond? This car is for melting tires and celebrating a road system that is second only to germany's. This car is as easy a target to you as the Smart City car is over here. And no, no-one thinks this is a "good" car, but that doesn't mean it won't be desired over here. What it means to US buyers is a relatively cheap way of getting to enjoy the sins of an 8.3 liter engine and still being able to have some sort of utility, even if this isn't your load-it-up with a dirt pick-up. The spoiler makes sense, this car is bound to be nose heavy, that's why the performance specials always have the shortest bed and shortest cab, not so much to cut weight as it is to shorten the wheelbase and tuck in the back end of the vehicle. the spoiler will likely add some sort of downforce in this case, unlike most of the "dealer-installed" spoilers which really are just profit-maximizing fiberglass eye-catchers. The lightning does very well for ford, and dodge just wants a piece of the action. The f-150 is by far the best-selling vehicle over here (900k+ sold last year), and the lightning is the rarest version.
and i guess wings on those piece-of-crap no-heritage ricers work so much better? At least with this truck I can squash the cockroach cars as they go under, and then toss their useless carcasses in the bed to take to the dump to dispos of them properly. I guess you're pissed because you can't afford a $45,000 truck or the $40.00 tank of gas it takes to run. I can so piss off!

Actually it would be more like $135 for a tank of gas in the UK.
...also anybody who has ever been to Detroit knows why it is call De-toilet. It has nothing to do with cars.

IMHO,
it's a TRUCK ffs!
Unless you need it for hauling firewood, carting cow manure or hooking it up to your trailer - please keep it off the road...
If you need one for a truly utilitarian purpose, please buy one. If you need one simply to have a place to store your empty beer cans as you drive down the road - the labotomy line forms to the right...
As stated above - just my opinion - and believe me - I could afford one of these eyesores - but again -
it's a truck ffs - who would pay that for a truck

Well Ernest, what about something like this for USD$17K

still get the 500HP but this one has been tweaked a bit to keep her on the road
I'm actually thinking of getting this as all my over stupid cars don't have a towbar.
