Bright Idea

Clever idea from blokes at Bayer

Bayer are giving themselves a slap on the back after completing development of their 'smart plastic' technology. The new concept allows light to be emitted from flat looking plastics.

By applying a thin membrane below the surface of the plastic, dashboards of the future will be illuminated without the need for bulbs behind the scenes.

The technology opens the way for interior lights throughout cars with the illumination coming from moulded parts all over the car. It won't be long before we have glowing indicator stalks, door handles and gear knobs...

Now I think this may also be adapted for Number plate 'illumination'.

when it breaks down it is going to be a pain to sort as well. I can see it now "must take the car into the main dealer as my dash is out"... yikes.

Actually, come to think of it, a flourescent green glow-in-the-dark Testarossa would look pretty cool in a revel-in-the-tastelessness '80s kind of a way
- kidding.

Funny coincidence, I just finished a module on this. If it's the same thing then I doubt it'll break, just fade over aperios then need re-doing.
