Revs Rapped for Offensive Advert
Don't read this at work - it's got naughty words in it
Discussion
Y' know, I thought cars were supposed to sell car magazines. Just says something about the readership of wRecks magazine that proves my point - real petrolheads' mags have cars in them. Revs is for 17 year olds who haven't grown out of sniggering sheepishly at page 3 of the daily Star yet. Then again, the cars featured in Revs are hardly likely to sell the mag are they?
V8, your pretty close.
Revs, Max, Redline and a multitude of others, I can't be arsed to mention are intented for the exact demographic you define, but the reason they buy them is becuase they are too shy to buy a proper w@nk mag'.
So there is a case to be argued that these "magasines" perform a valid social function in releiving tensions that may other wise be sated by them going out, getting stoned and nicking someones car.
Much as we loathe BoB propaganda, see it for what it is.
As for the placement of the ad's, the Nintendo guys should be more aware of their market then stuff like this wouldn't happen.
Fair enough if Revs paid for the space, they should be able to use it, but Nintendo Mag didn't have to take the money.
I know I got offered a nice cup of Horlicks and a sit down after my expressing my views on the Tatu thing (thanks Carzee
) but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize most of the readership of a mag' like this are going to under 13, and therefore this kind of ad' is patently unsuitable...
...now where are my slippers...

It's not the first time Revs has been slapped on the wrists by the ASA. It happened years ago while the very same firm paid my wages (because of a subscrptions ad showing someone eating a human brain) – not delibearte then, but you can bet it was this time.
As for Nintendo getting money for the ad, they don't – it's a back-scratching deal between two mags published by the same company.
No such thing as bad publicity, and all that. No such thing as fraudulent circulation figures either...
Still crap, whatever.
