Bendy Lights
Seeing around corners is the next big thing
Discussion
Trust the French to re-invent something they invented in the first place. Citroen DS had spotlamps which were mechanically linked to the steering system such that they pointed the same direction as the front wheels. That car was also the first with the hydraulic adjustable suspension, had a reasonably (well for its day) rapid engine and fully equalised drive-shafts and suspension systems to aid handling and reduce torque-steer.
Just read the piece about lights that turn as the car goes around corners. Well it may have escaped everyone memory but back in the 1950's a small car company in America produced a car called the Tucker named after the founder and designer of the car. Among many of the innovations introduced by this car was a system of three headlights, two on each side and one in the middle. The headlights where lonked to the steering mechanism so that as the car turned so the lights turned so exactly the same degree. The system was so clever that only two of the lights turned at any one time, the headlight on the side turning into the corner and the middle one.
Since the system was mechanical it required no extra power and was ultra reliable, can the same be said for any new electronic system introduced. As for being linked up to satellite navigation, that sounds like the fantasy of a white coated geek with too much time on his hands, GIVE ME A BREAK.
You are right JC but it was the ‘Torpedo’ manufactured by Tucker. There was a good film (though historically rather inaccurate) made about 10 years or so ago with Jeff Bridges playing Tucker.
And as for JKnowley, the Captain says only this to you: youre spellin is atrochuss.
It’s MASERATI for chrissake. Ye Gods, save us from these imbeciles!
Yours disgustedly,
The Captain
