Extreme concept from Chevy

WTCC car of the future?

Chevrolet is drawing the crowds in Paris today with its 'WTCC Ultra' concept car. It's Chevy's vision of a new generation of touring car.

Design chief David Lyon said: “We wanted to explore the concept of a Chevrolet muscle car reinvented for Europe.”

But unlike most styling studies, the WTCC Ultra is a fully working vehicle, powered by a 190PS common-rail diesel engine.

The car is also as global as the Chevrolet brand, with engineers and designers from all over the world working as a team to bring it to production. The initial concept and early design work was carried out in South Korea at the GM DAT Advanced Design Studio, while the dynamic look was the responsibility of 25-year old Ewan Kingsbury – a graduate of Coventry University now working for GM’s Australian styling department.

Colour and materials design was the work of Breony Crittenden, also of GM Australia, while the design was coordinated by engineers in the USA and Switzerland. Final construction of the prototype took place in Japan, with the help of British motorsport specialists Ray Mallock Ltd, the technical partner of the Chevy WTCC Touring Car team.

They'd never built it. And if they did, they'd put most people off my having a Oil burner for an engine nono

when I first saw the sketch I just wrote it off as another suped up hatch concept but with pics of the car in the flesh... I REALLY like it - reminds me of a Corrado actually - I know it doesnt look a thing like it in details... but the whole bulky, attitude packed hatch look - really love it

shame we'd never see it in the streets as a production car - at let not without the design getting watered down ...sigh sigh sigh

Hmm not sure.... GM allowed the VXR Astra (Some similar styling cues)to go from concept to showroom car without many changes!

Bet they dont let this one through the net so easily .....rolleyes

Extreme yes, cool? Not really. Astra VXR for me any day over that, then an orange Focus ST2 over both of them.

I've read somewhere on a Dutch website that they have to compete in a race/rally with this sort of cars and thats why they also have to build some for the road...so if you read it that way...they will build a car like that, though not so exact like that beauty I'm afraid...

Just the opposite - You ever driven a modern Diesel? A 190ps Diesel engine is quicker that a 190ps petrol engine because it has way more torque?

Autocar tested an M3 and a 330 Diesel back to back, they concluded (much to there surprise) that the diesel was the fastest car in everyday driving, not on paper, but on the road.
