An article i came across today posted by origin interesting what the minions of the law said

SPEED CAMERAS - A DEADLY DISTRACTION

Our final article highlights the issue that
speed cameras could be a deadly hazard in
themselves.
At an inquest on a Manchester grandmother,
who was hit while crossing a road close to a
Gatso camera, coroner John Pollard described
how the camera was one factor which could
have played a role in her death. The lady
sustained multiple injuries when she was hit
by the car in Stockport. He said: "The Gatso
can distract the driver. The driver could
momentarily be distracted and concentrate on
their speed instead of the road."
The court heard the speed camera - combined with
poor street lighting which created "a pool of
darkness" across the stretch of the road where
the fatal incident occurred - could have been a
contributory factor. A police accident investigator
said the cameras could create problems: "They do
tend to draw a driver's attention away from other
areas and they concentrate on their speed, making
sure they are not exceeding the speed limit."
Mr Pollard recorded a verdict of accidental death.
Editor's comment: This is a real tragedy, and
even more so if the speed camera really did
contribute to an accident it was supposedly put
there to help avoid. It highlights the fact that
drivers must stay alert with eyes on the road at
all times. An Origin b2 can help reduce the
potential distraction of speed cameras by working
with you as an extra pair of eyes - and these extra
'eyes' are looking out for cameras at all times,
so you don't have to. Of course, distractions will
always be present, be they cameras, neon signs,
advertising hoardings or a host of other things.
We all need to remember that our cars are potentially
lethal weapons if we let anything take our attention
away from the road ahead.

Yes, they are a distraction. Speed cameras are 'supposedly' only sited at accident black-spots. The one place where you want the driver to be concentrating on their surroundings, not looking to see if they are one MPH above the speed limit.
