anyone been a serious victim of road rage?
Discussion
hi, i have had a bmw x5 chase me thru birmingham with 3 dodgy guys in it..trying to ram me off the road after i mouthed 'wan***' to them when they tailgated me 2 inches off my bumper and overtook me... I thought i was going to die and had to do major driving to evade them..i had no time to call the cops either
also a businesman on his way to work in a mazda 626 in stratford upon avon did the same to me..as a result i never swear at all in my car now and have learnt my lesson
i just wanted to know if anybody here have had similar experiences.?

I've over taken a van and had the van driver giving me all sorts of hand signals and head light flashing. A couple of miles down the road I stopped for some roadwork traffic lights. Within a few minutes, the van had caught up, he got out ran up to my car and started yelling and banging on the window. He tried the door handle but I always have the doors locked so it didn't get him anywhere. He then kicked my door putting a big dent in it and went back to his van.
I got his registration number and good descriptions of both him and the vehicle. I called the police and gave them all the details. Later that day I went to the police station where they dusted my car for prints (luckily I'd polished it the day before) and they took a full statement.
About 3 weeks later, the policeman phone and said they caught him and he admitted guilt and accepted a formal caution.
£300 out of pocket but pleased he got caught.

I was driving along in town when a Mondeo cut me up, missing my fornt bumper by about a foot, so I flashed him. He then stopped dead, lept out of his car, and tried to pull my door open. Luckily there was a bus stop to my left so I drove as quick as I could to get away. He followed me but I managed to lose him by turning off really suddenly. A very lucky escape, only happen because I had anti hijacking, I've no doubt by the look on his face he meant to do me some serious harm. no other motorsist did anything I might add.
Went to the cops but said they couldn't do anything without a registration, despite me giving a clear description of the guy and his car. They did try to do me for having my car the wrong colour on the V5 though. Cheers guys. (it wasn't btw)

hey..whats anti hijacking? i heard some cars have got this but dont what it is
i had a lucky escape last december..when i stopped to talk on my mobile..then out of nowhere i hear a tap on my drivers window and i see a guy there with a balaclava saying..open the door mate'..it was a bit surreal..then on the passengers door..another guy with balaclava..trying to open my door......then they started getting aggressive..saying 'open your fu&&&&& door'..then banging on the windows violently. i quickly started the car..when i started the car i heard this massive bang..and i see another guy at the back of my car doing something to my car, ..then i speed off..it was dark but there were even people walking on the street..went to police station..and the cops said they couldnt do nothing as they were wearing balaclavas and couldnt identify them
i had just prior to that locked my doors..and i always look in my mirrors when i park stationery..these 3 guys i think had crawled on their hands and knees to my car before suddenly rising to their feet and trying to nick my car

when i was in the UK last i was approaching a set of traffic lights,an articulated lorry been aggressivly followed by what looked like a commuter motorcyclist pulled up to a changing to red light. There had obviously been some hand gestures between them as the driver jumped down from his lorry. The motorcyclist stepped off his bike and the two of them, without exchanging words started punching each other about the head, really fast and violently , like a boxing match last round. The motorcyclist, still with helmet on was coming off best for sure. The light changed to green and both got in and onto their own vehicles, still without words, and carried on as if nothing had even happened.Bizzare

I posted this in another part of the forums a while back, I havent botherd to edit it but seems I might aswell post it in here aswel! Like others I am very gratefull for the autmoatic locks on my car, thankfully my new one has them aswell!!
Anyway here it is....
(I realise in hindsight I should of driven of straight away, but I was picking my bro up. When I did decide to leave I knew he would be safe because he was with his g/f and her family)
Anyway here it is....
I a while ago said:
Last night I went to pick my brother up from a Charity Evening (at a local respectable hotel / bar)that he had gone to with his Girlfriend, I was due to pick him up at 11.15.
Anyway I got there and as usual he was late (nothing new!) After about 5mins of waiting though two guys came over to my car. They asked me to take them to the local town for a fiver, but I said not and explained I was waiting for my brother and they couldnt have a lift. At this point one of them tried the door, but they were automatically locked. Thank God! So they shouted through the door "give us a lift" I then wound the window down a tiny amount so I could hear them properly. At this point one of them tries to get his fingers round the glass and get in that way. So I wind it back up and shout back that I am not giving them a lift and to call a taxi, to which they say they have no money
I tell them to leave me alone because I dont wany any trouble and they walk off, I think they also keyed a car in the car park aswell
So I try and ring my bro and tell him to hurry the **** up but he had no signal, great! At this point they come over again, this time saying they will give me £10. I said no way and the smaller one of the guys walked off as I was gettin rather pissed off by this time. The larger guy however starts vigourously trying the door, yanking the handle(the car was shaking) I was starting to shit myself and would normally have left if I hadnt of been picking my brother up. Anyway, so I tell him in no uncertain terms to **** off or I will drop him (I had no intention of doing this btw) He got really agressive and started trying to smash the window in, I decided there was no point waiting around and didnt want to get out the car as I didnt fancy a 2 on 1 scenario with his mate who was lurking around in the shadows. So I drove off shitting my pants.
Anyway to cut another long story short went home got some people in the car and went back to get my bro, unfortunatley they had gone. I dont see anypoint in reporting this either as realistically there is nothing the police could do?
I was quite shaken up by it all though, as I am sure you can imagine.

I had an artic lorry overtake me in ireland in a 50kph zone with traffic coming against him, so i flashed at him. About a mile up the road i came upon the same artic going slowly in the hard shoulder, so i went past him. As soon as i did, he pulled out behind me and soon caught up to me, (i'm in a fiesta at the time), and brings the truck to about an inch of my bumper and is flashing and beeping the horn. I just maintained my speed until we got to another 50kph zone in the next town, in which he overtook me again, AGAIN with traffic coming against him, so i flashed him again. This lunatic stops the truck on the next roundabout and blocks me in between his truck and the traffic behind, gets out of the truck and came back to my car mouthing all sorts. I just stood over him and told him to get back into his truck if he's in such a hurry which he did, seeing as i am 6'4" tall with a yellow handbrake lock in my hand and he was a short fat arse. The minute someone gets out of the car to you, it's clear that you have to expect and assault. I got his reg but the Gardaí would do nothing about it
A guy cut me up on a mini roundabout round here. I hit the brakes and the horn simultaneously, as you do. Then, to my surprise, he slammed on his brakes too and blocked me in - he was directly across the front of my car. Then he opened his door and ran out to me, leaving his door open. There was about an inch between his wide open door and the front of my car, that was how close I came to hitting him.
Anyway, I had SBaby with me at the time. He got up to the door of my car, which I'd just locked when I saw him get out. He went to try my doorhandle, so I put my car in gear and put down some revs, making it clear that unless he stepped away from my car, I'd ram his car. Hey! It's an old Volvo, and I'd happily sacrifice it to get SBaby out of danger.
At this point, we made eye contact. I gave him my best "yeah? Come on then. Attack a small female and a baby if you're so tough, Suit Boy, but if you do I'll bend your shiny Beemer" look.
It was weird! Like a light flicking on. His demeanour changed instantly, and he just sagged and walked back to his car.
I couldn't resist it, I gave him a clap as he drove off.

I gave a burburry baseball cap wearing chav 3 coffee beans after he chucked a loat of chocolate bar wrapper out of the passenger window at a set of traffic lights. I was on a bike. Further up the road at the next lights, the driver got out & grabbed my shoulder whilst I was sitting on the bike, then proceded to prod me in the chest, a stream of verbals leaking from his gob. I tried to explain that his passenger was a tit, but he wansn't interested. More verbals & prodding, then I stood up (still straddling the bike), helmet on etc. He was about 5ft 2. I'm 6ft 7.
I just looked him in the eye & laughed out aloud, then lights changed. The people behind his car started tooting horns.
It could have got nasty though - guess who would have copped for it? Typical chav tosser. Always ready to have a go when they get caught out. It's better really not to rise to it. Especcially when there are several sets of lights ahead!

Several times I've been victim of, once my own fault partially.
First off, when I was 18 I had a moped to commute to college and back (not a chav on a moped by the way) when 5 chavs pulled up alongside me (one on a clearly nicked pizza delivery one) and decided they wanted mine, following a short torrent of abuse demanding I get off my bike or i'll get my face smashed in i was accelerating away their de-limited mopeds caught up, all 5 surrounded me and litterally started driving me into the pavement area. As we came to a junction they all surrounded me again as one got off his bike to get mine I drove onto pavement and away down next street, thankfully a misleading indication lead them the wrong way (how dense...) and I was able to zip off in the other direction.
Next up, a couple years later in my car, cut up badly on a slip road by Golf (im in Polo) so flashed the guy a few times, he didn't signal an apology so accelerated passed him and gave him a w
r sign. I carried on driving after this feeling I had told him what for (stupid move, I know) only for him to come screaming up beside me on outside lane of carriageway, his girlfriend literally out of the window (head and shoulder fully out) shouting her head off making all sorts of gestures, I mouthed him to f**k off (another stupid move) which resulted in him pulling in front of me (we're doing about 50 on 50mph 3 laned road) and slamming on his brakes down to 0!!! I somehow managed to brake in time whilst traffic behind me did well to avoid careering into back of me... at this point I put my foot down (I had gti polo) and got away from that nutter as fast as possible
and FINALLY... driving through east London some guy was flying along inside of everyone in single lane road, as he approached me I pulled in slightly to stop the cheeky t
t as he would have had to cut me up to avoid parked cars anyway. We stop at some lights and he jumps out of car comes running up to my window and starts hurling abuse about letting him drive however the hell he wants... window goes up, blank face staring ahead is put to use. he soon got bored of me ignoring him and sauntered off to his car before driving off down in-force bus lane, hope he got caught.

Sorry for long post, had a few issues with some bad road rage in my few years driving

Might make you giggle this little episode!!
A few years ago, came up rather rapidly to a set of lights across 3 lanes that all went straight ahead, first 2 lanes had a motor each stationary at lights, so took the third lane and looked like my luck was in as lights changed to green and so went straight through (as you do..making smooth progress as you do!). About 300 metres further down, lanes cut into 2, I indicate and move in. Well, would you believe it, Mr Chavtastic in his chavmobile took exception to this, I just gave him the customary V sign to acknowledge his skill in knowing how to use his lights and horn at the same time. Next set of lights, stop, he pulls up behind and marches towards me, at which point (luck still holding, lights change to green again), so I just casually flicked my cigarette towards his direction and drive off. Would you bloody believe it, it hit him the face square on!!!
Next set of lights, he decides to get out again and without hesitation (on a clear juction i may add), I just went through the red light and after a while, see that he is hard on my butt again! For some reason, decided to pull into the quietest side street you have even seen, screech to a halt and beckon this guy towards me. At which point, some sense seemed to have decended upon this fool and he stopped a few yeards back and reversed rapidly away never to darken my boot spoiler again, whilst I relit another fag (just to calm the nerves!)...so either a case of nearly a victim of road rage though he might say that he was the victim!??

Sadly I feel my story is all too typical of road rage victims. Several years ago I was returning from Tower View racing in north London having collected a part for my Chimaera, I was living near Tower Bridge at the time. Anyway, filtering through the busy Shoreditch high Street area some fool in a Honda Accord Coupe decided that he MUST cut aggressivley from the left to the right with little concern for what was in his way. Unfortunately I was in the right-most lane which he was so desparate to occupy and had the gaul to use my horn to signify (a) my presence & (b) my disdain. No matter, Mr knobjockey got in front of me as he so desired after I braked to avoid a collision.
Shortly afterwards the road bends to the right, and I changed lanes to the middle lane (of 3) as I needed to bear left at the forthcoming junction - this brought me alongside Mr knobjockey, who had driven across and cut up several others during his escapade. I made the 'mistake' of looking across & gesturing my hands in the air as if to say 'what the
'. I'll make this clear - the gesture was not one of wanker, or middle digit, but literally shrug shoulders both hands in the air as if to say 'what the hell was that all about?'. I the turned away to carry on with my drive.
Big mistake. Next I knew I was lying on the transmission tunnel of the TVR with bl00d filling my right eye and making a mess of the car (funny the things you think of in these situations!)... basically this
had fetched a baseball bat from his car and indiscriminately thrust it into my head, luckily(!) just above my eye socket. I didn't see it coming at all, had paid no more attention after my shrug shoulders action as I thought it so insignificant. Thats the last time I had the roof down in the TVR when driving through town....
Its amazing the strength that adrenalin gives you - first of all I lept out of the car almost instantly and starting gesturing to him that I was gonna call the police and kicking the front end of his car in - one headlight smashed. He started edging forward so I got out the way - given that he'd just swung a bat at my head in the middle of a busy street I figured he may not think twice about running me over - but as he came past I somehow mustered the strength to put my elbow through his side window cutting it up and introducing more lovely blood to the scene . I didn't even feel it at the time and thought he'd done it but when speaking to ambulance folk later and going over events it was clear what had happened.
Good things:
Tw@t threw the bat away once he got round the corner, but someone who saw it all happen brought it back to the scene.
Police caught him shortly afterwards (like, 5mins). This all happened at 3pm on a Friday, anyone who's driven round central London that time has an idea how busy it would have been / how impossible it would have been for him to get away.
Charged with GBH amongst others.....
Bad things:
o skipped court and hasn't been seen since, so essentially on the run. No comp for me. Bastard doesnt serve time he deserves. Basically this POS got away with serving someone a potentially lethal blow, his justification presumably being that I provoked him despite the fact that he was driving like an aggressive prick and several witnesses were happy to state thus at the time.
Ce la vi.......

monday morning 7.30 AM, my ex girlfriends 206CC, sitting in road waiting to turn right onto minor road, take my gap in the traffic & drive up said minor road until i come to traffic lights, when guy behind me at traffic lights jumps out of his car & opens my door screaming that i didnt take my gap quick enough to enable him to follow me through onto the minor road as he did...
i explained i dont have to make allowances for the cars behind me but he carried on so it ended up with me smacking him, which although slightly out of character & worried about witnesses, seeing as it was in the middle of rush hour traffic, i had no choice but to do.
not my finest hour but when i'm innocent i'll stand up for myself.

Worst ive ever had was sticky the "vicky" up at some tool who cut me up - he proceeded to follow me (was going to drive straight to the police staion but my oil light came on) - pulled into a forecourt with plenty people and CCTV about.
Thankfully things didn't go any further - still the scariest moment ive had in my car

Several years ago I pulled out in front of a Granada - it wasn't the best piece of driving I'd ever done, and although the Granada didn't have to brake hard, he had to slow down considerably. Anyway I realised that he'd started to tail-gate me at the next roundabout. So I just kept going round and round and round - at least half a dozen times before he finally gave up and b*****ed off.
Only a few weeks ago I was parked outside a nursing home. A white van pulls up in front of me, and after a few moments I realised that he wasn't going to drive around me like he could, but was forcing me to reverse back into the car park. I made a vague gesture to him, meaning that he could have made a slight effort and driven around me, before I reversed to make things easy for him. He drew along side me, wound down his window and gave me a total gob full about parking like a tw***. I dropped the electric window of my Jag and told him that I was a Respiratory Speciliast (I'm not) and that I was visiting a terminally ill old lady (I was having a coffee with my wife) and that I'd had to stop where I had in order to talk on my hands-free to tell a woman that her mother was dying (I was programming my sat nav). Yeah, I sleep at night - bet he dont though.

I've had 2 incidents of note:
1. Not long after passing my test I was with my Mum and Sister driving back from the stables in my new car when I came around a corner to meet a Transit van coming towards us in a single track country lane.
Now I know this lane very well and the nearest space behind me was about 1/2 a mile back, the nearest behind him was 100 yds, he had no trailor so reversing should have been easy but he sat there and gestured for me to go back, so politely I gestured for him to go back.
With that he jumped out and came up to so I wound the window down about an inch and he told me to, 'reverse the
up' I replied calmly and told him it was '1/2 a mile for me and 100 yds for him' a few more exchanges I informed him that I was in no rush and would sit there all day if necessary, eventually he walked back off to his van effing and jeffing at me.
So back he goes into the track entrance just down the road, as I pulled up I couldn't resist telling him a few home truths along, mentioned seeing him next tuesday and that if it was that important to get one up against a 17 year old he needed help etc. Before I took off down the lane not giving him a chance to return compliment/follow me.
Mother commended me on my behaviour but told me not to let her hear me call someone a
again.
I'm not proud of what I said but I made my point and I think he was embarressed enough by it.
In hindsight very petty from me, but i'm not being bullied by a t
t in a van.
2. Coming off the M5 sliproad at jct 30 in rush hour last summer I got carved up a treat by someone in a white van
who chopped in from lane 2 forcing me into the hard shoulder, so he got invited in for coffee on the way down the slip road, as we reached the red lights he jumps out and comes up to the my car ranting and raving, now there were cars all around us and I realised I'd have loads of witnesses (windows down everyone could hear us) so I jumped out the car and gave him hell (I was hungover and the red mist set in) I think he got a shock when a 6ft 2, 20y.o got out of a 106 ( he can't have been taller than 5ft 6 and about 50y.o)
and eventually turned around and quite clearly called me a '
ing prick' from under his breath, not being one to leave it I asked him to repeat what he said as I didn't catch it, I gave him another load of home truths about his driving and told him to
off.
As he walked back to his van all the people around me were pissing themselves laughing.
In reality I was shitting bricks but if it had gone Pete Tong I had a sterring lock sat ready on the passenger seat.

Not big and not clever either of these but both deserved what they got and at no time did I go for the fist argument either.

Out of interest, when you cut him up did you gesture an apology to him? I find that if I am cut up the immediate reaction of anger and frustration is killed almost completely if the offender admits their fault and gestures an apology (a hand up - all fingers showing, not just 1 or 2
). Too often when someone cuts me up, they will realise what they've done and try to ignore me as I give them a honk and get irate by their stupidity, this annoys the
out of me, if people would just accept theie mistake and say sorry without pretending it never happened I'd be much happier on the road. Most of the time I apologise after bad driving on my part but, on occasions where I have forgotten, the reaction from the victim of my bad driving is always much worse. Won't always work of course, some people are just nutters, but just an observation I've made whilst driving. Edited by mmltonge on Monday 11th December 01:14
I think my story is sadly the norm as road rage goes... I was driving through a 30mph village when a renault laguna storms up behind me and drives an inch from my bumper, so knowing i was turning off in a matter of meters i simply stuck exactly to 30mph. The highbeam came on from the laguna (still an inch from my back bumper!) so i indicated and took the turning i wanted thinking nothing of it... next thing i know the car is alongside me and accelerating hard just as i'm pulling out to pass parked cars
after a narrow miss there, the laguna then does an emergency stop and blocks the road, a reasonably young man leaps from the car, storms over, opens my door (i was too shocked to think of locking it) and punches me in the face
!! he then jumped back into his car and pulled into his driveway on the left. all me and my friend could do was sit in shock. What an Idiot!!!
Luckily i had no more than a cut lip (pathetic punch
) and we simply stood outside his house and took his address and numberplate. After a quick visit to court he was given a fine and a caution, which left me reasonbly happy....

I have found that I have made some last minute moves on the road whilst looking for a clients premises but raised hand of apology does much to calm a situation in my experience.
However, my house is located directly off a main road on the corner of a side lane and is difficult to access safely in the dark with timing and good vision being the key. On returning to my home one evening, I could see a car coming down the side lane from the very top and a safe distance away and pulled onto the drive to open the gates. The said vehicle had obviously been travelling at excessive speed along this village lane and breaked to a halt at the junction. Then reversed slightly, pulled onto the pavement, switched off lights and engine and then the driver exited and proceeded to run around to the front of my car where I was standing, somewhat perplexed.
This individal then proceeds to unleash a torrent of abuse about pulling in in front of him but the reality was that he was drivign too fast and had not looked before pulling on to the main roadway.
One thing I personaly hate is injustice and this baffoon was standing literally an inch from me on my drive,of my house, giving me grief. If someone switches off their engine and steps out of their car you know that this is not simply going to be an exchange of views and I think his intention was to take physical recompense, in his mind.
Sadly for him it did not work as planned, as I had had a bad day, was on my own property and took offence at his approach. One carefully delivered shove, initially to clear space for a decent swing, resulted in him falling flat on his back on the driveway. He got up and without another word, got back ino his car and drove off!
But do be careful out there, everyone.
