Good to see the ABD on the 'offensive'.......but the day councils give away their easy-won profits from parking fines etc to charity or whoever else, is the day the Devil is forced to buy a big woolly overcoat

And the Traffic Wardens (or whatever they're called these days) are going to collect the money from the meters using their new fleet of flying pigs.

Only found this out the other day.
If you ride a bike or scooter you can pretty much park where you want to as long as you cover it with a rain mac thing that you can buy for bikes. By law the traffic warden a.k.a a$$hole is not allowed to touch it and put a sticker on it. The sticker/fine needs to be on the bike itself.
I think that i will be getting myself a bike for the summer. No CC charges, little traffic and now no parking fines! sweet!!!

is this not the same for a car that's covered (eg tiv or classic car with car cover on it). I know my ex-flatmate got away without a permit in edinburgh for long enough as his Spitfire was left with car cover on when parked outside. (saying that, it was forign registered, so the couple of tickets he did get just got ripped up anyway)

Come on, you lot.

How's about joining up? The bigger the membership, the more effective it becomes.

probably i don't know. All i saw was that one of my mates had a ticket and the other one didn't because he had a cover on. But to be honest how much hassle must there be to put a cover over a Tuscan for only 5mins? rather pay the 20p...

If it's covered on the street, I'm pretty sure the tax disc has to be visible - some cover manufacturers include a small window for this.

Of course this doesn't apply on the private land of most carparks

But I thought the reason for covering up the number plate was that they couldn't issue a ticket without the registration number and as this was covered up (and they were not allowed to remove the cover) they could not issue a ticket.

If you have the tax disc on display they can give you a ticket because they can the reg number on that instead.

Neither can they report you for having no tax disc because they can't see your reg number!

Why can't this work on cars? I can cover both my plates with a simple velcro device, and lay the tax disc face down on the dash.

Can't they just clamp/lift the bike? If not, why not? Is it due to risk of damage?
