One of the first of the new Invicta's, the factory's car, was damaged at Silverstone on Saturday. It was being used at a VSCC event as a Course Car, but only lasted two races.

Hope the occupants are okay, but the Course Car is to check that track is free - not cause incidents!

On a separate note a friend with a 1930's Invicta told me that the first customer cars are now being made.

Was there aswell, apparently he went off as he approached "The Complex" and hit the rear end, spun then hit with the front.

According to a press member for the VSCC, the driver is not very well at all.

Would just like to add; appart from the little "incident" the car did look great.

I managed to stand next to it as it pulled away and can confim it sounds very very nice!

My oh my, what a wonderful lense you have Robert!

It was a bloody good meeting, but you missed Burrows' Cooper Bristol spin off and set itself alight! Not a happy chappy!

In fact I counted 5 spins, one fire, the infamous Invicta incident and two morgans going the wrong way around the track, all at the complex! It really does live up to its' name.

Was at Silverstone on Saturday took some pictures moments before the accident, he basicly lost it at Bridge reshaping the backend and the front.

It was a pretty serious looking smash. I hope the driver recovers ok. It can't be good for either Invicta or the VSCC to have such an accident occur on an open track.

On a lighter note, I didn't realise so many PistonHeaders(?!) went to see races for funny old cars. Especially brave to be at Silverstone in April - it usually hails.

I wonder if the Clerk of the Course will have words with the Clerk of the Course for driving like a muppet when he should have been checking the circuit out.

I think I might point this little incident out to him next time I have an off and he goes ballistic!

These funny old cars are brilliant fun to watch. I really can't praise the VSCC enough for the way they organise their events.

It's not every event where you can get right up to the cars and chat away to the drivers - bloody brilliant.

Well I hope this dosn't set them back too much, its a fantastic looking car i would like it to do well.

Is it too early t speculate as to the cause of the accident?

Yep! I'd wait for a report from the hospital. As they were just checking the course they may not have been wearing saftey equipment me or thee would use on the track

I was at another pre war (hitler's, not kaiser's!) car event on sunday, people there said the VSCC Clerk of Course is normally a sensible chap, so they suspected the car. However the Course car is normally a 30/98's or 3litre WO Bentley.

As to funny old cars, yes see profile! A Frazer Nash behind my Griff at Brooklands, taken this January.
My VSCC car - the Alvis - central throttle and no syncro-mesh does keep one alert! The short stoke sports 12/50 was guarenteed to do 80mph, the dealer would take you to Brooklands to demonstrate this if necessary, infact the London dealer Henlys did organise 'track days' at Brooklands in the mid 1920's for Alvis owners, cf TMS at Buntingthrope. Mine is a long stroke 12/50. I think a lot of the recent alvis vehicles have been exported to Iraq in the last month!
www.alvis.plc.uk/

Yes I did see the 'modern' Bristol spin, I just felt sorry for the marschal who ran to push it only to be singed when it burst into flames so yes red flag!

I liked the commentator's question when the morgan's(three wheelers naturally!) disappeared to the paddock from the grid during the delay caused by the Invicta, "Do they use tyre warmers?"

Next VSCC events are Curborough on the 4th and Wiscombe the following weekend.

PS: I see Ted has more info!

tvrgaas - I am surprised to find fellow pistonheaders at the event! I have posted before about VSCC and had little or no replies. I will keep an eye out for you at the next event.

Will be interesting to hear what Invicta have to say about the incident. I too was concerned that they might not have been wearing belts. Do hope the driver is OK.

Following the latest statement it seems the driver was quite badly injured. It took about 30 mins to remove him from the car so I kind of thought that might be the case. The statemement seems to suggest that the driver was only kept in hospital overnight, and therefore should be making a good recovery? Do hope so.

David,

You Griff looked lush on the car park at Silverstone, nice wheels.

That Red 911 C2 a few cars in front was a bit special too.

Seems to me that the driver was initially either going to be released, or was released and then readmitted due to a fractured vertebra. So injuries notlive threatening but more than one would want.

Just shows that one should always put ones seatbelt on.

David, just realised that that was your Griff after reading the above post. Very very nice! Did not see a pistonheads sticker anywhere though! I saw the plaque on the dashboard, 001 of 100, I guessed it must have been a TVR employee or something! Like the turned aluminium dash aswell. Did you spot the TVR Vixen a few cars infront?

quote: However, as the occupants were not wearing seatbelts........ err... hello !!!!!!!!!!!!! not wearing a seatbelt while testing a car on a race track are they mad or just plain daft? even if they were not planning on reasching high speeds there were other users on track. Hopefully a lesson learnt for all !!
