Most of you may not know but our most famous NZ rally driver, Possum Bourne, was critically injured last week in a road smash, while doing a reccie on the route for the GoldRush Hillclimb.

Possum is the 6 consequtive time Australian Rally Champ , former Asia Pacific Rally Champ, and sometime driver for the Subaru WRT.

I have NEVER meet a nicer driver, no make that nicer person full stop!

Since then the family has been innundated with emails and faxes wishing him a speedy recovery. On his website there have been over 1000 posts in the last 4 days!!!!!

Regrettably the news about Possum is not good at all. This I copied from his website
Location: Dunedin
Possum Bourne's Condition As At 7pm - Monday 28 April,
Statement from Dunedin Hospital Medical Staff
Possum suffered a severe brain injury at the initial incident on Friday 18 April and has been managed very actively until now.
The extent and severity of the injury was not fully apparent until the weekend just gone, when ventilation support was decreased but he deteriorated and had to go back onto full support.
Evaluation today, including a brain scan, confirms the original injury was very severe and continuing full support is no longer in Possum's best interests.

How very very sad

Crickey - best of luck for a speedy recovery and I do hope that there isnt bad news. Not many people have heard of Possom, but he is one of the southern hemispheres best drivers.....

Latest:

'Friends and family of New Zealand rally driver Possum Bourne are keeping a 24-hour vigil at his bedside after it was decided yesterday to gradually decrease his life support, leaving his chances of survival at "virtually nil".'
Very sad news. Here's hoping for a miracle.

Gutted does not even begin to describe how I feel. And I only met him a couple of times.
This is a sad day for NZ. He had such a HUGE fan base, esp wiht kids. One thing I'm really going to miss is the chance to take my future kids along to see him in action.
My heart goes out to his wife, Peggy and 3 children, Taylor (8), Spencer (4) and Jazlin (3).
