Evening Standard said:
More money now goes on compensating road users for damage caused by potholes than repairing them. The Local Government Association said today that £37 million was spent on repairs in 2006-7 - compared with £43 million given to those who suffered injuries or vehicle damage. It blamed a freeze on funding and rising maintenance costs for the poor state of the roads.

So it can only get worse, as even less will now be spent on our roads.mad

£37 million is a pathetic amount to spend on repairs in a year. The government make something like 800 times that amount on fuel duty alone.

Attempt at whipping up guilt? "We nearly got our road maintenance budgets down to zero, and you bastards have put all the costs back up again with your silly buckled wheels and collapsed suspension claims!"

If the roads were in a decent condition, the figure for repairs wouldn't be £43m. Back to work, chaps!
