Buses on Demand
Biggest shake up for UK bus system ever
Discussion
Surely this would mean less people on buses and more of them, making them less fuel efficient and more obstructive than they are already. If this isn't 'control of movement from your doorstep' then I don't know what is. Is this just a cut-price government taxi, because I know some very reasonable cab firms.
They're thinking of extending the Wilts Wigglybus to cover my area of Wiltshire (my local town is Marlborough) - I wish they would hurry up and do it.
Having spoken to people who use it nearby, it sounds ideal.
We have one taxi firm in Marlborough which makes it almost impossible to get a cab on a Friday or Saturday evening. Even if you can, the 8 mile journey from Marlborough to my village costs anything from £20 to £35 depending on how much of a cowboy the driver is feeling.
The last bus goes back at 10pm, not ideal but far better than what we have at the moment. Which is drive and don't drink, or wait 2 hours for an overpriced taxi.
