I saw some propaganda the other day concerning taking the bus "to save the environment".
Isn't it the case that if there are 50 people on a bus and they all got off and took FOUR modern cars each, then the net pollution caused would be less??
Also, Ken would be banning his own buses too since most of them were built about 20 years before 1992 and, thenmselves, are sh@gged out old bangers!

Doesn't bother me - WTF would I want to drive my S into London for? Couldn't get there for all the fecking speed bumps and craters anyway.
At least it'll put paid to a lot of the smoky old Datsuns driven by the colonial contingent.

Er, [holds hand aloft] why not just wait for the few pre-'92 cars to take themselves off the road through MoT failures? (The average life of a car is only nine years anyway, IIRC.)
That'll only leave you a handful of classics which will hardly be worth worrying about, and might actually cheer up the days of the unfortunate Londoners who have to spend so much time looking at dull old traffic.

So, having increased cab fares beyond the reach of many people, and introduced the congestion charge, which hits the nurse on her way home from her night shift far harder than it hits the businessman in his S-class, Red Ken's now trying to force harder-up motorists in their older cars off the road.
Keep up your strange brand of socialism, Ken - you'll soon manage to erode your traditionally working-class support to the point where you're unelectable next time round.

What about those who live in London and own pre 1992 cars?
The worry here is that it could be the thin edge of the wedge. Soon we could see schemes like this all over the country. The EU has been trying for years to ban old cars from the roads.
As for the buses - of course they won't be banned ... public transport can do no wrong in Kens green eyes.

And what about those unfortunate people whose job dictates that they own a car but their budget makes it a rusty, beige Volvo 3-series from 1986? Is Red Ken simply going to put them out of work? I wonder if this applies to all the government vehicles, buses, taxis (that he's so fond of) etc etc W.H.Y.?
Properly kept and MOT'd, a classic should not produce a vast amount more emmissions than a modern car anyway. This is simply control freakery with no clear purpose. And what about the London to Brighton run? will that be axed? Classic Cars at the Ace Cafe? the London Classic show - great events and revenue earners for the city that he obviously sees the need to squander.

Just because I can't afford to buy and run a modern car I'm being discriminated against. This is an infringement of my civil liberties.
Apart from any other considerations, keeping an old car on the road has been shown to be less harmful to the environment than keep buying a new one, due to emissions etc from the manufacturing process.

If he really - and I mean really - wanted to make a difference emission-wise, he should place a limit on cylinder/engine capacities - make it 3.0 litres and 6 cylinders (or maybe 2.0 and 4 - diesels/LPG etc exempt). It just shows the pathetic knowledge these people have concerning cars when it comes to making up legislation affecting most of them. And again, it shows that they know nothing about the environmental costs associated in churning out the cheap, flimsy, plasticky boxes they are so fond of.
This is just great! it will be destroying my business - Classic car Club. we are trying to make classics accessible to as wide a range of people as possible taking away the hassles of ownership...basically a sensible way to enjoy classics....and then that clown Ken threatens to put a spanner in the works. Surely schemes like ours are one option to the future of older cars, and should be embraced. Banning cool old cars doesn't solve any problems as far as I can see. Does anyone know who we can write to or contact to clarify the actual situation??
