The season is upon us.
Highways dept have been like busy bees down my way lately.
Pouring hot tar onto roads and pouring chippings onto it. They then leave tons of loose chippings on the road to cause skid hazard and damage to cars.
Last week on one stretch of road the chippings had piled up to a 4 inch deep mess in channels on the road.
I reckon its a rip off by the contractors to charge extra for the loose chipping not needed to resurface.
The road was dangerous and my car got filthy with dirt from these chippings too. The job they did weas crap as the whell channels were shining and slick due to no chippings adhering on them - in piles instead and loose.
I bet nobody will be sacked for the useless job done or the creation of a hazard.
Mind you, a couple of stretches of road do seem to have been done well but this is in the minority.
Its supposed to be a cheap and cheery way to extend the life of a road surface but the hidden costs of chip damage to motorists is not counted - unless we all send a bill to the council?

They did it round here last year, saw a couple of cars off the road and me and a few other bikers had to ride through it at about 20mph. The traction control light kept flashing in my car indicating the wheels were spinning at 30mph. Doesn't take long for it all to wear off though, don't worry it'll be back the way it was before you know it.

I detest these cheap and nasty tar and chippings jobs as much as anybody, but I hardly think it makes sense to drive on them such that you're causing wheelspin.

Best wishes all,
Dave.
