I love it when they save us from ourselves

Any chance it disrupts radar based speed detection systems?

Woohoo!
Now with GPS speed limiters, radar guided cruise control, automatic parking thingies, all we have to do is put our foot to the floor, steer, try not to fall asleep

I seem to remember that all systems like these that "scan" the road for objects have problems with shadows such as those under junctions on motorways? If my memory serves me the computer sees them as physical walls and so slams on the brakes.

A more technical person must be able to explain how they have got round this issue?

Or if they are using a different system how much time delay is between the brake warning, the seatbelt "tugs" and the brakes going on automatically?

You drop back then accelerate to overtake - just as your about to pull out the bloody car slams the brakes on.

Honda has announced that it's developed a new system to prevent pre-menstrual women and doddering OAPs from driving. The PMS and 'E-Pensioner' systems will automatically refuse to unlock the doors when approach by potential drivers falling into either of these categories.

Err - they are using mm radar in a very narrow beam (<1 degree vertical spread, <2 drgress horizontal spread) - it needs something physical therefore in the way in front to reflect it!

Stupid Idea people will become too dependent on the technology to get them out of the situation. Plus I've work with advanced cruise control systems that do automatic braking and they can't get it quite right, so if you're passing a big truck or something it slows you down, as this is an emergency system it could cause you to do an emergency stop on the motorway!!

Don't laugh ! This is just the first step in a new "the car is right" era...God help us once politicians, technology and legislation get into bed together

Just imagine that instead of an emergency braking system, you had an emergency acceleration system All you would need is a long range radar facing forwards, to detect and calculate the gap in the oncoming traffic and closing speeds, a wide appeture side mounted radar, to detect the length of the lorry you're overtaking....and a BIG bottle of NOS Now that would be a cool emergency system to have

What about when it is being driven enthusiastically towards a sharp corner at speed. The rader sees the metal radar reflective chevron sign beleives its about to have an impact with a stationary car and just as you turn in it applies the brakes unsetling the back end an voila one hedge visit?...Is it going to be that safe.
