So the second prize is a Cooper S???

Surely i'm not the only one who thinks its a better car than all those offered as a first prize.... or am i missing something here?

You're getting confused between 1st/2nd place and 1st/2nd prize - in this case 2nd means next, rather than lower in position/value.

However according to the T&C's, they promoters would be within their rights to stop the 'game' at any time, even if you win, and refuse to cough up - and they will not let anyone (other than the winner) know that the 1st prize has been won - until the closing date.
