And what's going to happen when the first person dies when this cuts in during an overtake?

At a guess, we'll get an advertising campaign aiming to make overtaking "as unacceptable as drink-driving".

Well this is another little jigsaw piece in the DfT's attempts to install GPS tracking systems in as many cars as possible, despite the result of the ePetition last February. The thinking is that if they manage to pick off lots of sub-groups of road users in order (e.g. Truckers, Company car users, taxis, rental cars etc) they'll be able to attain critical mass and then foist it on the rest of us (because it's already being used)

So frankly the onus is on the fleet drivers to take a stand against thier own companies and refuse to accept such fitted cars for work use. Most contracts of employment do not cover the company's right to personally track your location (I know there are exceptions) so it's time to take a stand and negotiate if you feel strongly enough about it.

Have you read about these systems? Have you even read the article?

got a company car, if they fitted sat navs instead of suggesting we buy them, then would be not as opposed, but might have to find out which fuse powers them, hopefully they have their own circuit smile

have driven speed limted vehicles,m which have a loud beeper sounding whenever went over the speed limit

edit:
"warns that 'implementation of the proposal as it stands could lead to congestion effects, caused by more vehicles being trapped in long overtaking manoeuvres. It would also impose additional costs on operators because of increased journey times"

bit like all the trucks on 2 lane sections of the m11 slowly overtaking loaded trucks over many miles

lots of sections in the link posted

Hope it happens. It'll keep the diesel driving fraternity in line - let's face it the majority of people don't buy them new with their own money. Diesel is for business, not pleasure.

if it happens, u will get slow diesels limited to 70 mph overtaking slower trucks at 56 mph, I will not care if some petrol car is behind me, not sure about emergency services, but suspect they can undertake on the hard shoulder unless nu labia lets everyone else drive on them

Out compacy van are fitted with full time trackers, which include..
engine is started
engine turned off
which doors are opened and at what time.
excessive idle time.
brake lights operation
the van is also limited to 68mph...

There already has been some road rage reported from other road users...when being held up by a slower van..
The company line is its illeagle to do over 60 anyway so think yourself lucky you can do 68..!!!
With regard the trackers, we have been told they are for our personal safety as we are lone workers,
The GMB our union came to the agreement that any data collected from such a devive could not be used for disiplinary purposes...

imagine trying to overtake a speed limited diesel car who is trying to overtake a speed limited van, guess some people love to stick at 70 mph for a long time, anyone full beams me, the rear view mirror gets flipped up so not dazzled....

am a lone worker, but work on site with lots of people, trackers are no use as they have no panic button afaik... mobile phones work as a very good tracker and so are mostly turned off, unless on site smile

Quite the opposite, they hold me up when they think they're going quick.

can easily complain to company who will just turn round and give me a taxed allowance to get my own car and get to pay for insurance, servicing, fixing it when it goes wrong, paying for hire cars etc

can see lots of people refusing company car - costs a bit but hassle free smile

So you want them slowing down?
