Never Rev Above 2000 On The Dial...
Discussion
You do get the impression that it's only a matter of time before new drivers are taught that driving "economically" is more important than being safe...
Oh, and if you never took the engine above 2000rpm, you'd soon get to the stage where the injectors and so on were clogged and running inefficiently. Engines like to be taken across the whole revband every once in a while!

So, let me get this straight.
As well as speed limits posted all over the shop, we now have rev-limits to look forward to? How would that work, exactly? You're driving along and you see a new "speed/rev" restriction sign in the shape of gordy's backside, 30/1800...
No, I just can't see it. It's far too gruesome.

"How to drive
Car makers say we all need to learn how to drive in a more fuel efficient way.
Amongst the initiatives they support, one is called Eco Driving; courses where you learn how to use less fuel simply by driving a bit differently.
I went on one that was run by the firm Drivolution in Paal, a town about 50 kilometres north east of Brussels.
Before I hopped in the car, my instructor Eric Michiels said he could show me how to reduce my fuel consumption by some 8% - for good.
This is what he said I should be doing:
drive in fourth gear when your instinct says you should be in third
brake earlier
accelerate more slowly
do not ride the clutch
never rev above 2000 on the dial"
Since when did our society need to be taught how to drive?
I know theres some bad drivers out there, but telling you how to be eco-friendly takes the mick.

Do you even read what you link to before talking shit? How exactly is it communism when the car companies are blaming the drivers? From the article:

The companies are playing politics but the political and media classes put this environmental crap on the menu.
I hope you fall off Table Mountain.

CJ, enjoy your political pedantry... whilst we plough about in rickshaws!
Hmm. Rickshaws. Now there's an idea. Scrotes need exercise and a job, I need to go to work. Everyone's a winner!Seriously, though, I strongly suspect that the car manufacturers are doing the bare minimum of handwaving and looking-like-they-care in order to continue making proper cars. I don't think there's anything wrong with people being able to buy tiny, efficient cars.
I will be getting agitated if that's all people can buy, though. However, I don't think that that will ever be the case.
Mind you, if the day comes when I can have a nuclear-powered, 300BHP, 400-mile-range electric car (imagine a 4-door Tesla Roadster) then I'll be all over that like a rat up a drainpipe. Max torque at zero revs? Suit you, sir!

ocks to the concepts taught by IAM and RoSPA, we'd rather you're unsafe than polluting.
