the M5 the king of the fat man cars? i dont think so although the M5 looks good.

but for jaguar this s-type r it looks very nice and you can notice that jaguar is trying hard to get the old man look of the cars...

Well, word has it that 4.2 is the most the V8 Engine can be bored out to, this will surely be an M5 opponent and leave a Mercedes E55 standing. Looks nice, can't wait to drive one..I'd love to see this motor in an X-type.

This motor in an X-type ? Wahey !!! Can't imagine you'd get a 4.2l V8 in the X type's engine bay,doesn't it have a transverse engine ?
I wonder if there are any plans for a very high performance X type-it's a great chassis and the Sport I drove certainly felt as though it could take the power...

I've heard from mates at Jag that ther are definately plans for a supercharged x-type - as there is no way a V8 can be sqeezed into the engine bay without serious reworking of the chassis, which would not be cost effective.

I've heard similar things from mates at Jag. The main problem was that they had tried different versions and it went great. However it was too fast, ie. faster than the xk which is supposed to be the range topper

This thread has been dead for a while but....just bought one!

Awesome car, completely civilised and easy to drive at a normal pace but with ballistic performance when asked.

Excellent used buy too, at 8K! Think I might keep this one for a while, but then I do say that about all my cars for the first few months :-)

I took delivery of my brand new X-Type earlier today, absolutely lovely.

Compared with my 08 plate Ford Mondeo company car I have just returned, it is like chalk and cheese.

Ooops, work got in the way of Pistonheads, and I forgot to reply to this topic. Unfortunately my work firewall wont let me attach the images either. frown

So sorry, but I'll try and put some pics on in a couple of weeks or so when I get back from work.

IMHO its a very good looking car though (in British racing green), and it certainly does go!

What, it crumbles to dust and smells?

hehe

Interesting that you feel the X-Type is better than a newer car...

It is certainly more comfortable, it seems to be screwed together better than the Mondeo and the engine, although sharing a commmon block has far more torque and is much smoother than the Ford.

I was out last night on one of my favourite bits of road I use when I am examining, and it felt far more stable and planted than the Mondeo did on the same section of road, maybe because it is not as physically big as the Ford, and reversing is such a joy, I can now see where the back end is, something that is nigh on impossible on the Mondeo meaning you have to have parking sensors which is another £200.

The clincher was the price, I got a lot more car for my money with the Jag than with the Ford. To get the same spec as I have as standard in the Mondeo would have cost me an additional £7K.

A friend of mine has the 2.5T Mondeo on an 07 plate, and after comparing the two, even he is considering changing to a Jag!

A lot of people seem to slate the X-Type but I have found that most of those who do slate it have never driven one.

I think the X-Type (Petrol 2.5 or 3.0 especially) is a pretty good car.

I'm not so sure. I had the 3 litre all-wheel-drive X-type for a while. Great engine, without a doubt, but the seats were hellishly uncomfortable on long jaunts and the levels of fit and finish were just not....Jaguar. A great disappointment, I felt. Bought an A6 after that. Night and day.

I had an X type 2.0D sport for a year as a company car, and it was absolutely brilliant, handled fantastically
Craved a bit more power.
Very very well built

At the risk of being inflammatory here, I'm all for judging a car on its merits but I grew up in a family that had a few jags during the 70s, 80s and 90s and I really struggle to like the X-type. If you're moving up from a Vectra or Mondeo then it may well be a much better car but it's plasticky and tinny in a way that jags should not be. Apologies if you've got one... :-/
