New Pantera To Have Lambo V10?
Revived De Tomaso Pantera could have Gallardo V10 and four-wheel drive
The De Tomaso Pantera has always had a special place in the hearts of many enthusiasts.
On one hand the Pantera had exotic supercar looks but underneath it had a heafty Ford powerplant, and therein lies the appeal.
There has been rumours of a Pantera revival for a while now, but this time reports suggest the car would not only have Lamborghini Gallardo underpinnings, but would also be fitted with the Audi/Lambo V10.
Whether the car would be priced under the R8, which has the same architecture, and way below the Gallardo is unclear, but the problem for many fans is that the V10 will make the car too expensive.
The engine would be mid-mounted but there is now talk of making the car four-wheel drive a la the Gallardo and R8.
This means the car would have similar performance but the question is whether the market would welcome a third closely related car.
The concept is the work of designer Stefan Schulze and is his proposition for a successor to the Pantera.
Come to think of it, does the VAG group make any rwd cars? Can't think of any. Regardless, I would prefer for the new Pantera to have a v8 as well.
For some people the 'Lamborghini' name is just too much badge. 'Audi' perhaps not enough. Why not have an alternative? Sign me up!
Would the market welcome it? You bet your arse it would. No such thing as too much choice.
P~
If for some reason they had to make a new one, it should have some sort of American V8 engine in it, an LS7 is a vastly cheaper way of getting 500bhp than a megapriced Lambo engine. The whole idea is that it's a taste of italian exotica with reliable, cheap but powerful american engines.
It beats me why no D.I.Y. ('kit') version has been made in that market --so easy to replicate compard with Countach etc + layout at rear leaves itself open to virtually any engine and tranny - eg tuned 383 + used 911 tranny - make body from glass and kevlar with suitable light tubular chassis on modern suspension honed by Lotus / Prodrive and voila!
1100 kg everyday supercar with 400+ bhp / ton, 0-100 in single figures, fantastic quad pipe sound, spacious, exotic and all for under £20k complete, incl air and leather - guarantee it is not only possible, but surely unavoidable! - Come on you guys, must be somebody working on it...
It is this combination that made cars such as this (of which there were few,) a cult hero
I will take a high quality complete kit for £9k + supply own engine and tranny - anyone else? - Slightly preferable to yet another £100,000 pandering to the rich set............

I'd choose 4WD/AWD over FWD or RWD anyday. Personal choice of course.
only it soon won't be personal choice as everyone will make 4WD cars soon.
(of course I base this statement on meticulous study of the motor industry
)Save the RWD!

The Son has cancelled the Production of the last Sportscar from Detomaso
the GUARA.
Bad Quali,Delivery probs and angry Customers has killed Detomaso.
Detomaso is looks like TVR and Marcos History without Chance of a good Future.
