Tata gives green light to new Land Rover and Jaguar models over next five years

Tata has given the green light to a number of new Land Rover and Jaguar models over the next five years, it has been reported.

Top of the list apparently is the Jaguar XE – a £40,000 two-seat sports car that is currently in the early planning stages.

It is not clear whether the car will be based on the XK or XF platform but reports suggest it will be ready in 2012.

Tata has also approved the Land Rover LRX, a sporting 4x4 that has been very well received.

It is understood the car will be built at the company’s Halewood plant and Land Rover is expected to double the production of that facility by 2012.

Tata chairman, Ratan Tata, said he has ‘great respect’ for the two luxury brands and revealed a five-year plan to build Land Rovers and Jaguars in the UK.

Great 2 seater Jaguar roadster. I'm saving already. Please use the aluminium platform of the XK for it. thumbup

Bring back the "F" type! smile
£40k - lightweight - stick in the V8 + supercharger, and I'm liking it a lot.

Well the xk-r doesn't cost a whole lot more than £70k new so if the xe is smaller and simpler with a lower goodie count, I think hope that Jaguar could do a range topping supercharged xe for about £50K and a base v8 only model for about £40k. And if it looks anything like the f type concept did cloud9

That'll be the same F-type that I put down my £2k deposit for a few years back which was then returned ages later with a small covering note......"sorry,only joking,we need to make some more very dull cars first"...rolleyes

I must admit, I think the Land Rover LRX look fantastic, and I really have never wanted to buy a 4x4 before.

Good to see already that TATA are thinking of the future. Let's hope the two brands move forward and are a success. As well as doing this, investing in the UK and leaving the Defender alone, they will have my support

Would be great to see a 2 seater jaguar sports car like the F-type, should have been done 10-15 years ago!

The £40k target only looks possible if they intend to build them in India, remember Tata only said they didn't intend to move production out of UK nothing about new projects or model lines.

It *was* going to be done ~10 years ago. Ford cancelled it.

Just a thought- I guess this means that Tartar got the rights to concept models & ongoing design work at both LR & Jag. I wonder how much "embedded value" was included in the purchase price for such projects? After all it seems likely that they only required the necessary ££££££s to move to production-given the right marketing. Makes me wonder if there's anything else unseen that will surface e.g. were Jag designers already working on the £40K "junior" Sportster (Boxster rival??)

Hope Ford/JLR DID include the potential of these in the price or Tartar definitely got a good deal.

Great news, I'm sure Ratan Tata is going to show everyone how to run a successful car company and actually make some bloody money, cant wait for the new models to come out!

And this loser to to all the tossers who posted on earlier threads saying how the Indians will ruin Jag and land rovers future.

Early days yet mate, don't let some marketing spin fool you. Of course they are going to say all these things - in light of the obvious comments about an Indian company buying them. Ratan Tata is a very clever man and will appreciate the UKs dubious nature - he wants you to start thinking about buying Jag again and by stating that he will save UK jobs - guaranteeing a future for Jag and LR.

Of course a few years down the line he could change all of that - when you're in love with your new shiny Jag, he will squeeze the bottom line by moving it all over to India.
