257 tonnes... won't that bend the road in this heat?

why don't they do this type of thing through the night as opposed to the busy periods of the day.

Exactly, but they don't care. WHat difference does it make to their business? It costs more. Money makes the world go round, and round and then down the pan.

Dont see how this can be "motorway traffic", you cant put a 30 mph moped on the Mway, or a 25mph tractor, but a 2 lane wide 200 & something ton generator - thats fine. Presumably Blair's Spin machine blew up the last one

If it's going from London to Stafford, why is it travelling south on the M1?

Stood on M/way bridge near me this morning until 10, no sign of it...........

Saw large number of Tivs though, mostly heading south, almost missed 2 driving across the bridge behind me!

Got a nice pic of this though, anyone we know?

Edited to add close-up of shiney head for identification purposes.

Rant mode I'm afraid.

Set opff from Sheffield at about 11:00 yesterday morning. All the way down the M1 the electronic signs were warning of the wide load - complete with a completely random speed limit.

The first eight we saw were:-

60, 40, 60, 40, 30, End, 60, 40

So no real pattern there then boys . Is is any wonder that most people ignore these signs as they clearly have no bearing on what is actually going on.

What is worse, is that a few people were breaking sharply at every on - result 100 mile traffic jam from Nottingham to the M25. Fantastic

Of course, we have to keep the coutry moving - and some times wide loads are necessary. However, there was no bloody sign of this one (other than the signs if you see what I mean).

So, the operators of the electronic sinage have succseefully brought the busyist road in the UK to a halt for no apparent benefit. Cheers guys .

The Tivs were on their way to Mania at Bruntingthorpe. And I got stuck behind the effing slow load on the way home. An hour roasting in the bloody sun, watching the remperature gauge like a hawk.
