'09 Discovery 3 gets a nip and tuck

Land Rover has bought out a subtly revised 2009-spec Discovery 3.

Spot the difference...
Spot the difference...
When we say subtle, we mean subtle, and the updates include new front and rear body coloured bumpers and wheel arches, as well as revised exterior detailing.

The front and rear bumper, and wheel arches, have also been re-profiled slightly and the asymmetric two-piece tailgate now comes with body coloured tailgate lift handle.

There is also a revised 'tungsten' coloured side vent, 'tungsten' door handles, and clear-lens side repeaters across the range.

A new 19-inch 7-spoke wheel style and three new exterior metallic paint colours – Santorini Black, Galway Green and Bournville [black with a hint of brown] – complete the exterior changes for 2009.

Interior upgrades include a new ‘almond’ trim colour and an updated Bluetooth system.

John Edwards, Land Rover UK managing director, said: ‘With almost 100 international awards to date, the Land Rover Discovery 3 has earned itself a reputation as the ultimate all purpose vehicle.

‘The latest revisions add to an already class-leading package, building on the Discovery 3's unique position as one of the most versatile vehicles on the market.’

The new 2009 Discovery 3 receives its UK debut at the British International Motor Show which opens on 23 July, 2008.

One of the best all round cars money can buy I reckon.

Truly astonishing off road and so relaxed on the motorway.

Almost makes the Rangie redundant, but that is a BIG almost!

What is it with all the boring 4x4 news!!!

Was some small 4x4 from Ford only a few days ago!

I've been on here for many years and it used to be called PISTONHEADS and the news was about Drivers cars not cars to tow caravans with!!

Are the new owners doing a Labour government on us and not listening to what we say?!....

Am i the only one who feels like this!?

P.S. How about some replies from people who don't own 4x4's!!

I've a mixed relationship with these things. So capable, in their current form, all round, but if I ran a supercar that gave me as much grief as our Discos have over the years, up to and including our two '3s', my missus would leave me. She's just bought her seventh.

some of us need a big 4x4/station wagon to ferry the kids, tow a horsebox, or the race car and in these roles and as a 'jack of all trades' the disco3 is supreme. swear by mine and i wasn't expecting much to be honest.

What the hell is the point if they slightly change the body work and the interior colours!!!!?

Just marketing stuff I guess?

yes But i guess that the general consensus with owners is that they like it the way it is so Land Rover dont want to drastically change anything.

I bought a Disco 3 and I must say it is brilliant. In fact I've just sold the MX5 and I'm going to just run the Disco for a while in the current economic climate.

Yeh I would like TDV8 as well, but do you think if they did put it in Disco would they keep the old TDV6 unit or sell it alongside?

They haven't reduced the weight of the thing then, by the looks of it.

Erm, why would you? It's essentially a monocoque and a ladder chassis together, making it have good on-road manners and letting it be pretty much unstoppable off-road. Where's the weight to trim? It's an inherently heavy car, to go and give it a different chassis would defeat the point of it existing.

Land Rover have made numerous announcements to the effect that they won't install the TDV8 in the Discovery, presumably so as to not undermine RRS sales.

Fine if you tow horses but otherwise an inelegant transport solution (aka a lumpen cupboard on wheels).

And I speak as someone who lives at the end of a long muddy rural track.

I am not a 4x4 fan, but i did run a 2.7 TDV6 HSE for 4 months and i have to say it was a brilliant car. i didnt think i would ever like a 2.7 tonne diesel tractor, but i loved driving the thing... if i could find an excuse to have another one, i would...
