Curfew for young drivers??

Just heard a story on the news this morning that Ireland are thinking of imposing a curfew on night driving/driving with certain passengers for teenage drivers.
What does everyone think of this one then?!
Personally I think the 45mph restriction for 12 months is enough already for our celtic cousins but while I can see what they're trying to achieve I think the extra proposals are a very bad way of going about it!
Lets face it, you'd be buggered in winter when you can't get to work or home in the dark!

This is a disgrace i cannot stand this place. I am an "R" driver from Northern Ireland and i am 19 years of age and quickly becoming sick of the UK.
As soon as i have finished my degree I am out of here i have had it with this communist society governed by interfering old mothers who somehow end up in parliament implementing ridiculous controls on peoples lives.
Today someone recieved a criminal record for having a bin slightly open? Maybe if the council tax everyone pays went to providing a service instead of thousands of worthless interefering politicians there wouldn't be a problem of peoples bins overflowing.
I have been stopped by the police, no joke, 5 times in the past 2 weeks and i am getting sick of them. They see the "R" plates and immediately i am being brethalised, questioned, opening the boot. Hey, maybe soon they will find an officer in there because I AM SICK OF IT.
Now WHAT THE F*** do you do with my money?
Well take John Prescot, he likes to play Croquet with mine in his country manor, or the entire House of Lords, take my taxed pay, tax the petrol, then add VAT to that, and scoop it all up and take it for MUCH needed home improvements, such as a new kitchen for their SECOND OR THIRD HOME, and heck, why not strip it out and do that every year, its not them paying for it.
We already have to stick "R" plates up and drive at 45mph, now this.
What about people my age who work nights?
What if i finish work and go to the Gym about 8pm with a few mates and after we are finished..oh no, it's too dark, far to dangerous, what will i do?
Why the F***K can't i drive about at night if i want? it's not the Soviet Union, although fast becoming one.
Eveyrone with a bit of sense will soon be out of this country, i know i will be.

Is this Northern Ireland you're talking about? I don't think you can blame the UK seeing as we have none of those regulations, you might want to point the finger at your southern cousins.

ks though really. There doesn't need to be more restrictions on young drivers, that's admitting people are getting through the test unsafe, you need proper driver training with an acknowledgement that minor things like wheel shuffling really aren't that important, experience is vital and that people drive totally differently once they've passed.

When I taught learners I made a point of getting them up to 70 on dual carriageways (when safe) so that they could experience this in a controlled environment. No doubt some bright spark will suggest that the rest of the UK follow the NI example, after all speed kills!!
Doing 45 is dangerous, when i recently passed i stuck to 45 and other people just stared and people tailgaiting me so i just do what i want now.
I got a speed camera and mobile sites off the internet and its in my gps so i slow when i get to them, other than that i use speed limits purely as a guide to what speed i should really be doing.
That interfering environment minister can go f*ck herself or get one of those hippy cyclists to do it because if i want to drive at night i will, and i will drive at what speed i deem reasonable.

When you first started walking as a toddler you were more likely to fall, it's when you gain experience with every passing day you learn the skills and become more proficient.
Same with driving, and now new drivers will not learn the skills to drive at night, what an utterly stupid idea.
Sure we might as well not do anything as it's too dangerous. This society. needs to grow a set, because i for one am not letting this ugly, stupid pointless waste of time govern what i can and cannot do.

Hi Conor, I work for UTV Late and Live and we are interested on doing a piece on the young driver restrictions for Monday night's show.

The idea of curfews and passenger restrictions for young drivers isn't new. It isn't to do with whether it's dark or not, it's to do with the number of accidents involving new drivers that happen after pub closing time with a car full of mates.

That woman is the type of person that is on their children's schoolboard, attends church once a week with no real christian values other than to appear to others as a model citizen. She loves to interfere with other peoples lives "for the better" as she is so much more intelligent than common people.
Hope she is on the show as i am sick of people like her, let me live my life not your idealistic personal version of Orwell's 1984.

Maybe have the 1 in 100 young and careful drivers go on some advanced course to show they are careful drivers and not some boy racer that seem to get their car upside down and in a ditch every few months on one of the main roads around here....

I think you need to wise up, your probably getting old now, your reaction times will be failing you so soon you will become a danger to the road, perhaps a curfew for you? Maybe you need your own sticker on your car "OAP".

Well then it's not difficult to concieve that i, and people like me, shouldn't be punished for others actions. If we do as you say, Balmoral Green, and punish everyone within a certain demographic, this is discrimination.
As this country is full of people without a spine (such as 99% of people on this forum who complain about fuel prices and don't do fu*k all about it), and love to introduce new sets of rules as long as it doesn't apply to, or slightly benefits them, such as Scraggles who i guess is frustrated by young drivers over taking his 1.6td estate focus; discrimination is not a factor as it only concerns a minority.

Personally i don't have a problem with fuel prices, put into perspective it's roughly the same per litre as mineral water, nobody complains about the £1.22 bottle of evian with their lunch.
