FUEL AND ROAD TAX PROTEST 19TH JULY 2008
Discussion
Judging by all the posts and threads i've been reading most people on here have said enough is enough. I've put a couple of threads up but so far have not had a overwhelming response and as threads go get shifted down.
So far i have 200 people willing to do something, the plan is to meet at various service stations on the M1 before meeting at South Mimms Services before heading into London.
Some people have expressed that nothing will be done and scoffed at the idea, fair enough and true nothing maybe done, but if one Labour MP sits up and takes notice then surely its worth doing and its a day out of your life.
FOR F**KS SAKE IF YOU HAVE AN OUNCE OF PETROL IN YORU VEINS ITS ABOUT TIME WE STOOD UP AND DID SOMETHING INSTEAD OF JUST MOANING SO I URGE YOU TO JOIN AND COME ON THIS PROTEST ON THE 19TH JULY.
Thanks chaps!!!

Dear Incapability Brown and cronies,
We are not just 'motorists', we are hardworking British citizens from dockers to doctors, teachers to preachers, mothers and all others who need vehicles to fulfill our duties and keep the country alive and solvent. We contribute to the economy and work hard so that we may pay our mortgages, feed our children and occasionally enjoy some of the finer things available in this developed country.
We understand that taxes are how the monies to run essential services that support the country are raised - however, the current level of road fund license increases announced in the most recent budget are unacceptable. By retrospectively applying large-scale increases to vehicles registered seven years previously demonstrates hypocrisy (by a Government that claims inflation to be only 2%), a willingness to penalise a 'captive audience' (cars bought between 2001 and today are the result of buying decisions made years ago and will now be harder to change should their owners now be driven to it) and an irrational belief that the British public will stay meek and obedient no matter how much you, basically, take the P1ss out of a generally good-natured Nation.
You justify your heinous Road Fund License increases with an environmental agenda of 'cars that burn a lot of fuel kill the planet'. Mr Brown and Mr Darling - here is some logic so simple that you cannot defy it - cars that burn a lot of fuel cost more to run and the fuel is already taxed at an exorbitant rate. Your decision to apply retrospective taxes on cars that already exist and will continue to exist whether under the current ownership or new ownership is a cynical money-gathering exercise that will have NO beneficial effect on the net production of pollution of those cars. Your tax hike is akin to 'shooting fish in a barrel' - the gun being the supercomputers at the DVLA and the barrel being every driveway in the UK with a car less than seven years old parked on it.
Shortly, I and hundreds of other 'motorists' will be reminding you that YOU work for US, by means of a protest staged in London against your incompetent bungling of the management of our great country.
Later, when the next General Election takes place, the newer-than-seven-year-old cars will find themselves being taken by their disgruntled owners to a special place called a Polling Station where a small number of political candidates can be selected according to the voter's desire for a fair and reasonable Government who display genuine fair play and respect for the electorate. On that day, Sirs, the tables will likely be turned. Shooting fish in a barrel? Quite!
^^^Just posted this on your site - I believe all complaints should be directed at the people who can do something about them - let's do this and invite our French cousins to give us lessons and maybe join in!!

Chief - i'll be there mate, millions of drivers across the Uk are paying too much in fuel duty yet we're just laying back and taking it - I can't believe the poor response from this motoring site.
Maybe everyone really can't wait to be paying £1.50 - £2.00 a litre
It's the UK, Apathy rules - who cares.Maybe everyone really can't wait to be paying £1.50 - £2.00 a litre

Most of us know that your protest will be noticed, by the press, by the public, and there will be a nod of "yep, they're saying it how it is", but the thick skinned tax collectors of Westminster are not interested in public opinion one hoot. They have a mandate to f

They know that they have a cat in hells chance of winning again, unless they can get Mugabe installed into count the votes, so let's make a bloody big mess of the economy for whoever takes over.
Don't forget to pay your congestion charge when you head into town.

Dont you think a picture of a Boy racer/sport/rich kid/petrolhead type car being shown 'at speed' will only confirm what many anti motorist people will love to pounce on?
Perhaps a normal family car would be better.
Indeed... I briefly considered taking the Westfield, but decided against it for exactly this reason. In fact the Octavia vRS might even be a bit too racy as well.Perhaps a normal family car would be better.

labour MP Michael Meacher - what a pompous a**e he is
In case you didn't hear the story, you'll like this. Some years ago, a journo phoned Michael Meacher, who answered the phone, but claimed to be someone else.
The journo knew it was Meacher and engaged him in conversation. Can't remember the details, but Meacher made a complete tit of himself...still claiming to be A N Other.
When the conversation ended, Meacher forgot to hang up, and the journo kept listening.
He heard a perfect conversation between Meacher and Mrs Meacher as she rebuked him for being such an arse....
If you are incensed by the retrospective application of higher road tax rates to 2001-2006 cars, please sign my petition to the Prime Minister at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Roadtaxrates/. If nothing else, 200 signatures ensures a formal reply by the Government. Thanks!
