Ferrari GT Revealed On Web

Details and pics of new Ferrari will be officially released online

Ferrari has ditched the traditional razzmatazz of an international motor show for a slightly less glamorous location to launch its new car – the World Wide Web.

The car that has been referred to as the Dino and F149 is now being called simply the ‘Ferrari GT’ by Maranello and images and details will be revealed over the coming weeks.

There will be an official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in October but the car will be officially revealed on the internet before that.

There should be technical details, sound files and photos of the car between now and Paris.

The sound of the GT’s engine is the first piece of the puzzle to be revealed, and that will be followed by photographs in a few days.

Doesn't seem to rev very high. At first I thought some sort of "6" (in keeping with the Dino theme) but some of the clips sound more like a flat-plane V8.

Well it's based on the same chassis as the MaseratiGT/Alfa8C with the same 4.3L V8 (which was Ferrari derived anyway) so it's not really anything particularly new apart from how it will look.

Sounded rather rough on tickover but then comes alive with a nice bark. I thought V8 with a slight "Boxer" tone to it.

How much is the predicted to retail? There's a nice hole at about £100,000 where the only read choice is the 911 Turbo...

latest from car magazine, was 150k. higher than originally hoped, yet makes sense as we are talking a competitor to db9/continental GT.

What's the Scaglietti? Not much more than that...

Is there really a market for a mid-engined F430 *and* a front-engined 'GT' around that price?

Engine sounds great, but not keen on the sound of the instant auto gear changes - sounds too playstation. It needs the slight pause and "clack clack" sound of the gear stick moving through the metal gate.

That would be more than the F430 wouldn't it? I though the idea was to make a cheaper entry level ferrari to compete with AMV8s and High end 911s.

I dont get this car, in the ferrari range 'sports-supercar' =f430, 'GT-supercar'=599 'GT-4seat-supercar'=612.
In a commercial sense it appears to just be a slightly cheaper 599, and probably wont sell too many as it is not top of the range.
In an enthusiast sense (where little money is to be made) its crap. I thought they were going to make another 'Dino'. Small light car with a revvy V6 or V8. An elise on steroids! Alas no...

Yes. All Ferrari modesl have epic waiting lists, even the most unpopular model, the Scagletti, has something like a 2 year waiting list. You can bet most of those buyers really just want something with a prancing horse badge on the front and many probably wouldn't even know or care if the engine was in the front or back. Plus since most of the engineering/drivetrain etc is pre-existing, the development cost should be minimal (also probably why it's come to market relatively quickly) so this model should be a very nice little cash cow indeed.

Its a shame if this was a sub-F430 then it would be very interesting indeeeeeed.,

Forgot how close it is to the Scag, will be interesting especially as scags are starting to nudge below £100k., On the other hand it will also be ferrari's first coupe convertible, with new super-duper roof technology if you believe the rumours. suspect it will fly out of the showrooms.

it will be pointless at that price.
