Anything MiTo Can Do...

Alfa shows where it got its ideas for the MiTo

When Alfa brought out the MiTo, we couldn’t help thinking that the name reminded us of a little bratty kid trying to be like someone else.

Interestingly enough Alfa has just released a series of images that show the new baby hatch next to the range-topping 8C Competizione, supposedly to show you how similar they look.

If I owned an 8C I’m not sure how impressed I would be about this, but for those in the market for a MiTo it has to be a bonus.

Have a look at the pics – there’s certainly more than a passing resemblance…

If I had a requirement for another very small city car it would be a very difficult choice between the 500 Abarth and the Mito.

In these pictures the MiTo and the 8C have similarities in appearance to the Ferrari California, especially the studio they were taken in!

The MiTo looks good though, and probably would next to almost anything else.

Well they are both red and both are wearing an Alfa badge.

Thats where the similarities end...

I like it. I'd take one over a Midi, sorry, Mini any day.

You are of course jokeing?

We need someone with PS to stretch the MiTo (from the rear for instance) just to see how damn similar they are.

The MiTo's Alfa badge in the front needs to be as small as the 8C's, right now it is too big. The interior of the headlights also needs to be black like its big brother is.

The car would look better if its body was lower - or more specifically; more horizontally narrow. Less shopping cart hatch, more sports car. The problem with the design of the earlier Alfa hatches has been their gargantous fronts. Cannot be good for weight distribution, that.

Anyone know if those 6-cylinder engines they cram into those fat fronts are worth it?

I like the baby hatch, but nothing can distract from the stunning 8Cnono

Alfa produce some beautiful looking car designs, but only one at a time. Expect the 8C look to be plastered over facelifted 159s and breras in a year or two.....

It looks like the 147 and 8C have had an affair and produced a beautiful offspring!

agreed! the mito can look disproportionate at certain angles... the nose is way too large... still can't wait to see either in the metal though!

They share some styling details, rear pod lights, lines on bonnet, basic shape of headlights e.t.c but the 8C is clearly still the stunning supercar biggrin

It's even the same bloody colour too!

That's it then, I'm selling my 8C.

It's not the best looking Alfa in history, but I can see why they're so keen to compare it to the 8C!

To my mind it looks very Lancia-like from the front.

Im going to reserve judgement untill i see the baby alfa in the flesh.

Exellent excercise in marketing however, its not like it would effect sales of the 8C (ie bring them down) as the're all sold out, but it may just boost the MiTos

if it had a lower stance, lower roofline and a smoother front it would most likly be on my wishlist along with the 8c.
