Millenium Falcons

Ford reveals heaps of fast Aussie Falcons

Ford has unveiled a range of high-performance six and eight-cylinder Falcons for the Australian market.

Now, we’re thinking these would make a great alternative to the Vauxhall VXR8, especially the 422hp 5.4-litre ‘Boss’ V8 with its old-school stripes.

There is also an ‘entry-level’ 4.0-litre turbocharged straight-six with just a few horsepower less, 415 to be precise.

The line-up includes the F6 Ute, Pursuit and the interestingly-named Super Pursuit Utes, the F6 sedan and GT, GT-P and GT-E luxury models.

All of them get cross-drilled and ventilated Brembo brakes and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard.

Gearbox options include a ZF six-speed auto or a new Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual, which is also used by the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette.

So come on Ford, I’m prepared to ditch a Mondeo for one of these - it's so bad it's good...

I'm very disappointed. I thought this would be about the opportunity to buy your very own modified Corellian YT-1300. frown

It's so they can answer 'yes' if any yoghurt knitters ask if it's green.

Turbo Inline 6 is the one to go for. Launch control, 300 odd kilowatts, less weight over the front axle and less top heavy - and faster, if the XR6 vs XR8 is any indication. Put it this way UK folks; here in Australia for around 45k aud (roughly 22,000 pounds) you can get a well sorted, rear wheel drive 5 seater saloon with launch control that will hit 62mph in under 5 seconds (as tested in WHEELS), and has all the requisite luxuries, plus a choice of ZF 6spd auto or 6sp manual.

It's called the XR6 turbo and it doesn't have a racoon for a face, but its almost the same car underneath. Have fun in your hot hatches...

edited to add that the FPV version has 300-odd kilowatts, whilst the sub 5 second XR6 Turbo has 270. But I digress.

And theres always the G6E Turbo exec express if you don't like spoilers.

Why do we have to put up with all the crap Ford produce over here, while the aussies get these beauties?! grrr...
Come on Ford, start importing them!

These should definitely be imported. As Falcons if necessary, if they don't want to mess up Ford's brand positioning. They'd be cult heroes like the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth... except a heck of a lot quicker smile

Quite like the more discreet GT-E, even if it does look suspiciously German (I think Ford actually poached one of Audi's designers)

I remember them selling the LTD in the early '80's. God knows why they bothered, I think I only ever saw one.

Actually Rocco, if the new one is anything like the previous, the 6 actually has more torque than the V8 and only 7 less horsepower.

Or you could just get a Cayman, Z4 or Exige for circa £30k.

Those would be pretty pointless if you wanted a large performance saloon though. But if that were the case then you can get a used AMG E55 with 476bhp for under £30K.
