Great South East Driving Roads
Discussion
Can't remember the road names, but the route from Gosport to Basingstoke via the Meon valley was both beautiful and had some good roads. Completely and utterly spoilt by invariably doing the route closer to peak times.
And the back roads from Aldermaston through Burghfield to Reading were pretty good as well.

When you say South East, which counties in particular?
Sadly to say though, most "Great Driving Roads" tend to be bedecked with cameras, signs telling you how many rtc's there have been on that stretch in the last 200 years, and other paraphernalia.
In North Herts, the A507 between Buntingford and Baldock is loved by the two wheeled fraternity, and it's great in a good handling car too. The problem is meeting someone like yourself coming the other direction. A bit like Mad Sunday on the Isle of Man. It's fine having a bit of a hoon, but when someone's doing it the other way, it's a recipe for A&E.

Fantastic bit of road. When I'm going North and feel like avoiding motoroways, part of the route involves getting on the A507 where it meets the A10 and getting off again at the A600 just south of Bedford. It's a CRACKING stretch of road. As above, bikers seem to love it. I tend to make sure that I only stray across the centre line when I can see round the corners to avoid any nasty head on possibilities. Luckily visibilty on the whole stretch of road is really good, so alot of the time you can see whats coming for a long way. Handy as there can be quite a few lorries etc that will need despatching of if you're on it at the wrong time of day.
B1024 Colchester to Maldon has some good stretches on it that the Council are busily buggering up with random 50 limits. The Colchester - Bures - Sudbury road is likewise very good with many by-roads to explore along its length. The best of these goes off left just before Bures to Mount Bures where there is the Thatchers Arms whose garden/car park has a stunning view over a large stretch of the Stour Valley. This road is a good hooning road and emerges at Chappel on the B1124 just by the railway viaduct that was, until the Bertrand Russel Tower at the University of Essex was built, the largest brick-built structure in Northern Europe...
