Lada/Daewoo/GM Niva
New Lada may get the badge treatment

As an owner of a Niva I can say it is a damn good off-roader, it will go places I would/could not take my previous 4x4s. Another advantage was the price, who cares if you scratch or bend a car that cost so little.
The engine has proved reliable, it is the Russian 1.7i in mine although it does lack a bit of power. Spares are ridiculously cheap, a new set of front brake pads for around £3. fuel consumption not bad at around 30mpg in mixed use.
They are an excellent buy for somebody who needs a real off-roader and not a pose-mobile.

Hi Kevin,
Nothing beats a Land Rover and they can be bought from £50! The British need to support British Industry just like the French, Germans and Italians support theirs.
James,
You may be able to get a second-hand Landy in the UK from £50, but not in Hungary. I bought my Niva at 17 months old, with 17K km on the clock and paid £4K. It is going to be up for sale soon, and will be advertised at £4K, which should be attainable. The car now has 40K km and is just over 3 years old. Zero depreciation for a nearly new car, not bad!
