Camaro Cabrio - Official Pics

Chevrolet vice president leaks snaps on blog

It must be annoying if you are a spy photographer hiding in bushes and waiting to snap a new car only to be out-papped by the company itself.

It is a growing trend for manufacturers to release their own pre-production shots of their cars which simultaneously gets them publicity and ruins photographers’ days.

Recently Chevrolet released official spy shots of the new Camaro coupe but now Ed Peper, the company’s North American vice president, has posted pics of the convertible version on his blog.

He said the response to the coupe snaps was very positive, adding: As a reward for your interest – and your patience – here’s a sneak peak of the convertible version of the Camaro, which is also undergoing a similar evaluation as we ready it for full production later next year.’

The pics are only low res at the moment and the actual production models may vary slightly.

The car is expected to debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

They will have thousands of them sitting on dealer's lots. Who is going to want a muscle car when gas prices are pushing towards $5 in the US?

Looks a bit like a Mustang from the front.

Yes, but the car in the states will cost the equivalent of a packet of chocolate hob nobs and half a bag of salt & vinegar crisps laugh

Dissapointing if those are the production wheels, they lose all the agression of the concept frown

The colour and wheels dont help but it does look a bit toned down.

I have always loved the look of this car, since a saw a concept in orange and black a year or so back. Its a really good looking car, i hope its inline with this current generation of American cars (300c/Mustang) that seem to be quite good, certainly have presence on the road....

Its looks the nuts!

Styling looks a bit heavy handed, coupe looks better.

I am not sure why US car manufacturers continue to introduce heavy inefficient models. They have not learned the lessons of the 70's oil crisis.

When is the Camaro being sold then? Seams bloody ages since spy pics were first released.
They've said the V8 get 30mpg.

As the Focus RS is Wrong wheel drive, I quite fancy a Camaro. Yellow with Black strips.

Certainly looks pretty agressive.. I'm rather keen..
Agree the wheels look a little bland but there is still time for the company to come up with something a bit more appropriate..

Considering the awful MPG some people are getting out of many 'European' cars the current American V8's are seriously lazy in top gear and aren't awful.

I only averaged 31mpg in a 1.6 MX5...
