Whilst getting some ordinary V-Power last night (at a Shell garage that was open and had all fuels available!!) I noticed a V-Power Diesel - is this a higher 'octane/something' fuel? What's it supposed to do?

Cetane for diesel, Octane for petrol. I've never heard of V Power diesel though.

Yup have tried it in the Jag, makes no difference to fuel economy or performance but does make it a tad smoother.
Made a huge difference on my Missus Corolla D4D though!

My dad has always been a believer in cheaper is better, but the past 3 months he's been putting V Power diesel in his Merc and is convinced he is getting more mpg (he works it out on the last time he remembered filling the tank rolleyes

I used it in a non-turbo Pug 306.

It added at least 5mpg and made the engine so quite and smooth I thought I had put petrol in!

The V-Power they used at Le Mans is made from natural gas, reformed to produce a liquid fuel.

MUCH cleaner and less polluting.

I thought it actually worked out cheaper to use, due to the extra economy.
Over 55MPG Average real figures driving to work and back.

If you drive with a lead foot, you probably won't see as much difference, but just try an "Economy" run for your self!

V-Power Diesel is made from gas, and this makes it umpteen amount cleaner when it burns. Virtually no soot. And it burns more efficiently.

It's "synthesised using a GTL process (Gas To Liquid)"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_to_liquid

Clever stuff.

I'd say your jag needs to be looked at then! wink

Certainly won't make much difference to a "Smoker"! smile

Forgot to say - did you buy it at the same station???
In the past some unscrupilusty chapies fill the tanks with the same stuff but charge the difference!!!

On a ford transit connect tdci the v-power diesel gives it an extra 5mph on the motorway. other than that it doesnt make any real difference

Seems to be specific engines that notice. Mates Ford S-Max no difference.

Made no difference in my A4 TDi, nor did Millers Diesel Power Sport 4 or whatever it's called.

Anyone used it in a JTD engine on here?

1.9 CDTi and TTiD too as they're all the same engines

Yeah my 1.9 CDTi loves it, lots more responsive, cant guarantee any mpg gain, seemed a little better, but i vary 2-3mpg per tank anyway, needed a full tank through though, next tank definately improved it, but back to the normal stuff now

I try to a tank every few 1000mls just to clean out the cheap fuel, as it has additives like the petrol, and its cheaper than buying dodgy Millers diesel cleaners/boosters etc, trust shell stuff to work better with latest engines.

Have to say I was quite amazed. I put a tank in the 106 Pug and it runs noticably quieter. Really noticable in fact.

Seem to run good, maybe a bit more spritley and was probably better on fuel, although didn't clock it (will next tank).

I think some people are expecting too much in the way of performance though, it's only fuel not nitrous oxide or a bigger turbo.
