New Bugatti For 2012?

Interview reveals plans for Veyron successor

Despite rumours a new Bugatti would be a four-door, a roadster, a lightweight exotic, or perhaps nothing at all, it appears the company could be planning a Veyron successor for 2012.

Some reports suggested that Bugatti would not be making another car, but in an interview for Holland's AutoTelegraaf, CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen said a new model to replace the Veyron will arrive in three to four years.

Even though there is pressure to make greener and more efficient cars, Paefgen said that the new Bug would have to stand up to the performance standards set by the Veyron. This means that the new car could exceed its predecessor’s insane 250mph top speed that was achieved thanks to a quad-turbo W16 pumping out over 1000 horsepower.

The company is also considering a racing program, although it is unclear what championship it would compete in. Previously it had even been suggested that Porsche would force Bugatti to become nothing more than a coachbuilder.

Sounds good to me. It'll take something quite special to beat the veyron but I'm looking forward to see what they can come up with.

Probably in keeping with the current trend, a diesel Veyron next, with two of the V10 diesels from the Phaeton etc bolted together, W20 Diesel smile

Seeing as they made a loss with every Veyron sold, how will they make a profitable yet faster successor?

Yeah im a little perplexed about that one.. apparently the veyron cost £3 million each to make but sold 'em at £850,000.

Sums don't add up. Surely Bugatti has to atleast get close to breaking even with some of its car sales..??

I was hoping that 2012 was going to be the horsepower rating for the new Bugatti - Damn

Probably because that cost also included the development program to get the technology to the point where they could make the car.
Another similar car based on the Veyron platform, with alittle more advanced aero, a bit more power sell another 300 at £1M this time and I would guess that they would be closer to breaking even - but in any respect Bugatti is Volkswagen groups premier car maker -> Cost is not an issue.

It'll probably have underfloor heating instead of all those radiators.

Something special? You mean something lightweight that looks good? [troll] Rather than a hideously tubby vaguely TT looking motor? [/troll]

and because all that technology eventually filters down, I am sure i have seen a bentley article that has "as used in the veyron".

i thought it was a commonly known fact that the production costs were to do with the research not the actual raw materials.....

ah ha.. gotcha.. Well will be interesting what they come up with.. I think the Veyron is a technical masterpiece but im still a fan of the EB110 of old..

In the development stages it was thought that the BUG would need closer to power figures of 1200-1400bhp.. as i understand it the engine with the turbos turned up was happiley tested at those outputs, the engine is good so its all in the design...

I often thought that if i was a multi billionaire i would buy one, strap 250-500bhp of NOS, lengthen the gears get a manuel adjustment on the aero pack settings and lay down a 270-275 run.... As i understand it the BUG would need 2000bhp to pip 300mph or 480kmph... (something to do about air friction being squared at rate of speed...)

bring it on i say, they could make a 10million pound car sell it for 20, limited run of 15-50 and sell the lot on a good weekend in Dubai and america......

The disparity between the average joe and the uber rich is growing..................

Where in the world could you do 300mph?

Surely there isn't the tyre technology to sustain such a speed for any real length of time?
