London Motorshow
...is back - but it's not a motor show (apparently)
A new event will grace the motoring calendar this year. MPH'03 will be hosted in London and its organisers claim that it's more theatre than traditional motor show. Jeremy Clarkson will be amongst the presenters of the show which will run at Earls Court between the 11th and 14th of December.
There will be live car stunts and the latest models will be shown including BMW, Aston Martin, TVR, Lotus, Rolls Royce and Bentley. There will also be champagne bars and discreet 'boutiques' for those who wish to talk to the manufacturers personally.
The theatre element will be a showcase for Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. "Like every other car fan I've served my time trudging around old-fashioned motorshows being shooed off exotic car stands by security guards
," said Clarkson. "Now people can finally get close to the dream stuff they really love, and see some proper action and entertainment as well. I could blather on about cars all day, so that's exactly what I'll be doing
."
MPH'03 will be supported by Top Gear Magazine, The Sunday Times Driving and Virgin Radio. A major feature will be the Style Piazza a celebration of cool urban living with hip bars, designer brands, street cafes, live music and probably more poncey stuff.
Some of the greatest motoring screen action will be up for grabs at the MPH Drive-in Movie Theatre and the audience will vote for the greatest advertising campaigns of the last 25 years. A real-life design studio will give an inter-active guide to every stage in the process of taking a new model from a gleam in the eye of the designer to a finished product ready to roll onto the street.
There will also be trade stands for petrolheads to visit.
So, it's a bit like a motorshow, but its organisers are keen to emphasise that it's not, fearful of the failures that have resulted in recent London shows being binned. Apparently "MPH'03 - it's motors, it's show but it isn¹t a motorshow."
