Whatever next? 360 degree radar that yells 'INCOMING!' when it detects anything in the general proximity?

Yet another numpty device to get around a lack of basic driving ability in my book...

Hey, I desinged one of those..

That said, I gave up that line of work a good while ago for the simple reason than IMHO, things like this do little to increase safety as they tend to help deskill the drivers and don't actually address the problems that some drivers face that sometimes lead to accidents. Yet another example of motor manufacturers bolting on a bit of sexy kit to help sell cars rather than to save lives/injury..

The radar will be f***n useless in 99% of cases, as it relies on the numpty actually looking in the mirror.

If they're not aware enough of traffic to know a car is alongside then by definition they DON'T use their mirrors. Is it me? Or is this a blatently obvious flaw in this device?

Most numpty blind spots extend to anything not actually on the end of their nose. And in some cases end of nose is included too.

Victor - that's exactly what I was going to say, dammit man!

You'd really need some kind of alarm bell and a bloody great sign to pop-up into the middle distance above the steering wheel.

Or possibly, you could electrocute the driver. Generally, I mean, not as an alert...

I certainly wish a device much like this was fitted to numpty wagons. I would like to the device to sound a LOUD alarm if, whilst a vehicle is in the detection area of the numpty wagon, the steering wheel is turned.

If the twit who nearly ran into me had had one of these in his car yesterday maybe he wouldn't have tried to sideswipe me as I passed him. As it was it was a nasty moment and he got a full helping of coffee beans...
