Hot Megane

225bhp through the front wheels

Renault have just released details of the hot new Mégane. It'll be available in both three and five door configurations and comes with a 225bhp driving the front wheels. Power is courtesy of a two litre turbo engine.

To slow the car, Renault have slapped on some 312mm/300mm discs front and rear with four pot callipers at the front.

The Mégane Renaultsport 225 is assembled at the Dieppe site in France using bodies supplied from Renault’s Palencia factory in Spain. The Dieppe factory is now a facility dedicated to the production of the entire range of sporting models developed by Renaultsport Technologies.

It comes with lots of airbags, some nice seats, an ISOFIX thing to bolt your baby in and probably a state of the art cup holder.

.......and apparently you can crash it to your hearts content and be safe and smug knowing its only the poor buggers you crashed into that will be injured.

Thats nice then.

....well you can imagine the wifey-numties taking the brats to school, contentedly spending more time on little billy than on the road, becauase after all there are 50 airbags and gizmos to protect them.

Apparently they are making a cup version. Depadded seats. Bench as rear seats. Single exhaust rather than dual. Roofless. pvc rather than windows. Single centralised headlights rather than pairs of lights. Got rid of those rear brakes. But it is 3mm wider, 3mm lower and runs a quarter mile in 12 seconds flat.
But really this has to be cheaper than a V6 and has proper power potential being turbo. Even a cup version would be rapid. As for the looks, I am sure people will let it grow on them when they see a fast one!!!

Its not only for wifey you know

The car itself is a bloody good one, yes its safe, its got a good chassis and i can keep up with most and out handle most cars in the same class, and yes that includes all the fat Golf GiT drivers out there.

Yes it has some unusual features, but you either love it or hate it, personally i "like" mine, its actually a real drivers car and i for one cant wait to try out the hot hatch version, well, anythings better than a golf init !

FWD, not many do use Orange, but not many use the Lime green either

Its a good car, try one, you might actually like it !

If the current range of sporting Renaults is anything to go by, it should be a bit tasty to drive - shame it looks like a shopping trolley.

Wonder if they will do a stripped out Cup version ?

Like the styling or not, I salute the decision to drop a factory 225 hp engine in a Megane... It is always nice to see the manufacturers offering something with b*lls instead of just econo-1.6 liter eunich-motors. It is a trend that I hope continues.
