Astra TwinTop Gets VXR Treatment (Sort Of)
Your TwinTop is only a few bits of plastic away from being a Touring Car, apparently...
And the prize for wafer-thin marketing link of the week goes to…Vauxhall. This non-offensive bodykit for the non-offensive Astra TwinTop is all well and good but to say it is inspired by the British Touring Car Team really is pushing it a bit.
Nonetheless Vauxhall’s press release goes straight in with this flimsy association, even though it is nothing more than some styling add-ons. It is from the range of ‘VXR styling accessories’ which are available for all Vauxhall models and can be bought for £1399.
The rear spoiler can be supplied and fitted on its own for £299, and all prices include fitting and painting to body colour. Spend enough time rooting through the list of accessories and you will find a sports exhaust to give the TwinTop a bit more aural grunt, and there are a range of new alloys too.
Discussion
I still think the astra is a great looking car - I would hate to own one, but it is never the less a handsome car - Incidentally for $15,000 (just under £8000) you can now buy a "Saturn" Astra in the US with a decent spec and 1.8litre engine - Just one more reason for not buying one over in the UK

In other news I'm eating a Subway foot-long sandwich and it's nice
Nice one, what kind?Top subway hint here - go for a Subway Club and have them add the onions and peppars (and olive and jalapenos if you care for them - yummy) and THEN have them add grated cheese. After have them put the sweet onion sauce on the cheese and make them grill that. It is the best subway you'll ever have, the sauce on the cheese and those vegs grilled wotrks a treat. I've had so many subway "sandwich artistes" telling me they would be having that on their break. I never did undersatdn why they would grill the meatr, then cool it down with the sauce and salad. So I took matters into my own hands.
I am prepared to bet that this is the best and most informative post that PH has ever had.

Which would be £12165 if you imported one into the UK with shipping, 10% duty and 17.5% VAT and it would still be LHD. Blame Gordon Brown. I also suspect that the Saturn would be cheaper "rental car" spec. What ARE some of you lot on about? I had a Mk5 Astra and although the engine was the slowest diesel, the condition was rubbish and the spec was less than I wanted (I inherited it then traded it in) I could still see that they are good cars. You can buy a used VXR for under £13k now, too.

I drove them back to back. The new car, a 1.6, was bigger and heavier, the steering was worse, the performance lacklustre and it didn't represent any real advance over the outgoing model. The particular features I hated on sight were the plastic silver strip across the dash and the nasty little knurled plastic stereo adjusters in the cheap steering wheel, cheaper carpets, all far worse than the 1.4LX. It just wasn't worth the trade-up. I'm not saying it's a pile of dung, just a disappointment. Not tried the VXR but I think I'd prefer the ST.Assmask said:

Meatball Marinara, extra cheese, salad as you please, but definately jalapenos and southwest sauce...oh my god it's like sex, except its footlong.
