Petrol Prices Coming Down

Just been reading this article on the BBC website re supermarkets reducing petrol prices to below £1 per litre - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7672069.stm
I've always been a hardened believer in sticking with my shell optimax on all the cars ive previously owned including my current drive, but has anyone had any genuine experiences with supermarket petrol? Or any evidence on internet suggesting it should be avoided?

Not before time.........
a petrol retailers spokesman has just been on the radio and suggests that petrol will be cheaper still after Christmas and diesel will follow slowly but in 9 months time it will fall substantially due to shortages
I tend to steer away from Tesco but get good results with Morrisons and Sainsburys fuel both deisel in my Mazda and unleaded in my Citroen

I've used asda for fuel for ages (extra 2p a litre off if you use an asda card!)
Used in an Alfa 155, 2 SEAT's, citroen C5 diesel, BMW diesel, TVRS3 and Chim and with no problems...
Gives a sense of satisfaction when smug oil barons (hopefully next in line to topple from their lofty perches, after the last banker has tossed himself off to a sticky end (so to speak ;-))) announce how their obscene profit levels is in no way down to petrol prices...I mean really...just how dumb do they take us for!!! Whether profit is made from BP refining or BP logistics or extraction, its still BP...or shell etc. If they were in a competitive market, they would use their extensive vertical integration to complete on price with others...as it is, a nice non collusive oligopoly exists, and the ones to investigate are...a Government that's ripping us more than they are!!!

Still a bit vague on the answer to my question, is supermarket fuel worse than the mainstream petrol suppliers? Speaking from experience/statistics?
Couple of responses before now make me believe its worth saving the money and using the supermarket pumps, but am a bit paranoid on an ageing motor like mine!?
