Carbon Fibbers

ABT stickers give the wrong idea

VW/Audi go-faster masters ABT have taken the wraps off (geddit?) a new full-vehicle foil treatment designed to fool passers-by into thinking you’ve rebodied your R8 with carbon-fibre panels.

Also available for A4 and Q7 models, the funky foil is designed to precisely cover every panel to every corner and edge, giving a real factory-type finish, the company says.

According to Hans-Jürgen Abt, the German company’s MD, the new matt carbon film is

virtually indistinguishable from real carbon panels, with even the texture of the material exactly reproduced.

“When a vehicle is fully wrapped it appears more aggressive and dynamic, as carbon is the extremely stable material used for weight reduction in professional motorsport,” says Hans-Jürgen. “Of course ABT’s film does not have this feature, but it’s considerably less expensive.”

Why all thi "aggressive" business?

If you want "aggressive" - get a nasty dog and some tatoos.

Utterly pointless

I wonder if ABT also supplied the kit for that arabian Burberry Maserati?

Thats like reverse psychology for tuners isn't it. "Buy this, its cheaper and makes you 'look' like youre saving weight!"

Utterly pointless, and can definitely agree that ripspeed have probably already started producing their Vauxhall hatchback range.

Pfft.

Just what the average Q7 driver needs - more agressiveness.

Don't give them any ideas. I dread to think how many nasty dogs would fit in the back of a Q7. irked

In perhaps one of my worst A level Design Essays, back in 1985, I had to discuss the meaning of 'form following function' . Something about Victor Papinek ?

I forget, but I think I rambled on about FAKE wood trim in cars, but now single sided carbon effect sticky back plastic, would get me the same low grades.

A lady I worked with had a real carbon fibre bonnet on a jap performance car (plus 350 bhp). It looked nice enough.
