More Details: Nissan 370Z NISMO

Further images emerge of Nissan's worst-kept secret

More leaked images have confirmed rumours of a sensational performance and styling package for Nissan's upcoming 370Z, from the Japanese giant's in-house motorsport division Nismo. We posted a leaked image of what looked like a Nismo version of the new Z car last week. Since then these new images have emerged that give us a better idea of what the tweaked 370Z will look like.

We posted the first real-world shots of the standard car last week, and with this new 'S-Tune' package the controversial styling is going to be even more of a talking point. A different front bumper integrating a spoiler and enlarged air intake is mated to deeper side-skirts and some aerodynamic additions to the rear section of the car, including a fairly large boot-lip spoiler.

All this gives a more aggressive and squat stance to the compact GT, and the extra aerodynamic bits echo the determinedly curvy and bulging lines of the new car, marking a further departure from the outgoing 350z's sharper lines. If anything the NISMO pack just makes the 370Z appear even more bulbous and stubby at the rear.

In addition to the new images that have surfaced, a brochure detailing the Nismo package was scanned-in and posted on the website 370ztech.com. These are the latest leaked images and documents relating to the 370Z that have created a lot of excitement about the car. Of course, we'd never be so cynical as to suggest that any of this might be planned...

According to the brochure the performance package will include a stainless steel exhaust, special Nismo 19" alloy wheels, and modified suspension and brake pads. No word yet on overall power increase or weight difference, but if the package is mated to the the top-of-the-range ST version rumoured to be on the cards, then expect this to be a very serious sports car, with well-over 300bhp looking likely.

This comes after Nismo's Club Sport package for the flagship GT-R was announced in September, and suggests a real ressurgence for the Nissan sports brand, despite the global economic climate pushing so many other manufacturers in the opposite direction.

I'm not very keen on the front end styling treatmeant (the headlights in particular) but I do like the rest of the car. The rear especially is a major improvement over the outgoing 350z IMO.

For some reason the styling of this model doesn't quite appeal to me as much as the 350z. Its a tacky attempt and it looks like a Hyundai Coupe from some angles. Maybe its just me.

I'd have the Nismo 370 over a Cayman any day. Yeah I no all Porkers are amazing to drive etc but [minus the 911 Turbo, GT2/3] they just don't excite me - they blend into the background to much and a car to me is so much more than just how good they are to drive. The Nismo Z will have so much street presence, be way cheaper than the Cayman and still be proper proper fast.

And? Just because this cas has different badge it cannot be good? Being a Porshe proves nothing except who sells the car - see 924. In it's days R32 drove better than 911. New GTR again beats 911. And 370 will show Porshe a thing or two as well. Only to do them good really - they will feel strong competition and try harder instead of doing the same thing over and over and being happy about it.

But then again badge snobs will not accept anything that wasn't build in Stuttgart or Modena. Makes it all more amusing when they're being owned from the lights by an "inferior" car.

There's been a recent trend in PH lately in which every article about a new car is not news, it's an automotive leak. wink

But could you convince anyone to pay £44k for it if I made a faster lawnmower for £30k?
